I am all for supporting the LBS, especially since I wrench for mine. However you can get Egg Beaters online all day long for considerably less including shipping.

Even though I wrench at my LBS , I have gone to the internet for some items. Just had a set of wheels built for my Yukon at a considerable savings online.

I started wrenching at the LBS for fun and to help the owner out. She has her plate full running two race teams and putting on local races. I can say that I truly enjoy wrenching especially building bikes and I get to ride some killer bikes working for her; Colnago and Orbea to name a couple.

But what I like the most is knowing that when someone walks out the door their bike is going to perform flawlessly and that will be one less thing they have to worry about in their daily life.

They must have been the Titanium or the SL models. I just use the Eggbeater C models. They go from $50 - $70 depending on whether purchased at the LBS or online.

As to the reason...they have 7% float and are completely rebuild able, unlike so many other pedals. They aren't throwaway pedals, basically, and they have great warranty policies.

I switched from Time to the Eggbeaters. I have been using them for a few years now. I am very happy with them. They a re easy to get in an out of. I can walk in most shoes with clips as well.

I bet they were the SL models. The TI models are a bit more pricey...

I tried egg beaters after using spd for a while. I found them hard to get in and out of. I figured it was because I was using mtb shoes and the cleats were too recessed for them. Anyone else use egg beaters with mtb shoes?

I have eggbeater C on my Specialized. I had one bearing go bad and they sent me a new set of pedals. I have Smartys on my Raleigh and like them so far.

My cleats mentioned maybe needing to shave off a little of the

The MXR Eggbeaters haven't gotten very good reviews from what I've read. I recently got a set of eggbeater chrome pedals for my road bike ($70) and a set of Acid (larger platform than the candy/smarty) for my touring/commuting bike ($80 on a shoe/pedal combo).

I'm using mtb shoes, and find them easier to clip in and out of than the spds I was using. Check to see if the lugs on your shoes are contacting the pedal. If they are, your could shave/trim some rubber off the lugs (a common thing to have to do for spds as well), or you could try attaching a shim under the cleat (my pedals came with a thin plastic shim that you could put under the cleat if you had clearance issues)

Yup. Use the plastic shims supplied w/ the pedals. That'll make clipping in and out easier although you may make more clicking noises when you walk.

I didn't think of that...and now I can't find the shims. I only use the egg beaters on my back up bike so I guess I can live with the difficulty. Good advice tho for ppl using them with mtb shoes.

I used Egg beaters last year and had to take a drimmul to my Adidas MTB shoes in order to give room for engagment. On some of the shoes out there the ledges surrounding the cleat need to be sanded flush with the cleat.

$120 dollars is the msrp on the SL's. They are worth the extra money. I've broken the wings off of C's. Now I only use the C's on my road bikes and the SL's on my mountain bikes.

Check with your LBS. The shims are available and cheap ;)
