Terrific! He finally got his Pulitzer (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080407/ap_en_ot/pulitzers_arts)!
Thanks for making note of this, I had not yet heard the news.
Dylan was, and still is, one of my all time favorites. There were times in my life when his writing was all that got me through the day.

I liked Dylan Diego too, but maybe not that much.
Wasn't Dylan one of the domestiques who helped Lance win his final TDF? Whatta multi-talented guy! (Recently learned the chords to I Want You).

If you are a bonafide Baby Boomer, there is only one DYLAN!
And heck, he made it popular to use only one name long before Sting, Cher and Britney! Guess it just shows you the times they are a-changin'...
Hi Alice,
Bob Dylan is one of my favorite singer / songwriters. Glad to hear that he was recognized in this manner.
To celebrate I'm going to wear my brand new leopard skin pill box hat all day.

How could Dylan Thomas get a pulitzer. He's already dead. Do they give pulitzers to poets? ;)

Alot of kids like him too. My 26 year old daughter thought Dylan concert tickets were the best. I however have never been a great big fan.

Do you mean Bob Dill, the domestique who got Lance out of a lot of pickles?

My seventeen year old daughter has his poster up in her room.

I live in Dylan's hometown, Duluth, MN (although he grew up a few miles up the road in Hibbing.) He's never turned his back on his roots, has several friends and some family still here in Minnesota. A few years ago he played Duluth for the first time - that was fun. But I will never forget seeing Dylan at the Hollywood Bowl in 1965 or early 1966 just before Highway 61 Revisted was released. I heard him sing Desolation Row and Just LIke Tom Thumb's Blues live that night. I've never forgotten it, probably because I wasn't stoned - not that day anyway. I'm a real old timer! Started with Dylan in his folk period.

My only problem with Dylan is that he's been around so long and produced so much music that I've lost track. I was into his music up until Nashville Skyline. I frankly didn't like it and stopped listening to his new stuff. There were just too many other bands/artists to listen to. But of the music I am familiar with, many of his tunes rank up at the very top. I even loved his voice - especially back when he was singing things like Girl from the North Country and It's All Over Now Baby Blue.

This pretty much sums up my feelings, as well. Some of his newer stuff is very good but some isn't. I think he sometimes forced himself to produce music even when the muse wasn't there in later years. Perhaps that proves... even Dylan is human.
You mentioned "Girl from the North Country" and "It's All Over Now Baby Blue", two of my top ten Dylan tunes.

I'm tired of 60 year old rock stars in general. I stopped listening to Dylan's new music after Blood on the Tracks.
But what else can they do?
I thought Rage Against the Machine was on to something. But now I'm not so sure. BTW, they did an outstanding "Maggie's Farm" (live) on their last CD, before they broke up.
What I love about teaching is that I tap into the kids new music. Most of it is crap, but occasionally a few gems pop up.

There is some great stuff being put out by young artists these days if you know where to dig for it. Unfortunately the youngsters who get the publicity and make the big bucks are, in my opinion, not the ones who deserve it.

Dylan has been great and terrible throughout his long career. I think his last few albums are very enjoyable, if somewhat dark. I really enjoy his Theme Radio Hour on Sunday mornings on XM. He digs out some great tracks from all eras and genras to fit whatever the theme of the week happens to be.
Taking a bit of a veer offtrack, I'm going to see Son Volt tomorrow night in Atlanta. Jay Farrar was co-leader, along with Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, of Uncle Tupelo, the alt-country supergroup.
I don't see many concerts these days and I'm really looking forward to this one. Just getting out of town for a date with my wife will be a real treat.
