View Full Version : 2008 Houston to Austin BP MS150
I'm very excited to be riding my first MS150 this weekend. My fiance and I will be riding with the Deloitte and Touche team (her company) and we're starting near Rhodes Stadium. We'll be wearing Deloitte jerseys both days and I'll be on a purple '92 Trek 1420. If you see me, say hello! What's everyone else riding/wearing? Maybe I can spot you...

Last year I was able to spot the dude in the yellow chicken costume, but other than that, 12,998 riders all seemed like 12,998 needles in a haystack to me. :o
FWIW, I'll be wearing an ExxonMobil jersey each day riding a red bianchi. Check out my Avatar if you want to know what to look for. But I will be shocked if I hear someone call out "Hey, are you the dude from Bike Forums?!?"
It is a great ride, enjoy it!
I guess you're probably right. I'll probably spending more time/energy trying not to run into ppl/not get run into than looking around at ppl. But hey, ya never know!

I'll be wearing khaki shorts, a tshirt, and flip flops. :D I'll already be down the road from the fair ground on Saturday, maybe I should hang out in front of the finish line yelling "Hey, are you the dude from Bike Forums?!?" :roflmao::beer:
Y'all have fun. Just remember drink some water, and as always... Stay to the right.

I'll write BF in the lower left corner of my jersey number. If you see me, say hi. If not.... it would have been nice. I'm riding for Team St. Davids. it has a dinosaur eating pizza on the back.

I'm the guy in the ride marshal jersey on the silver Airborne.

I'm sure you've heard of Mangia Pizza here in Austin then, right? A dinosaur eating pizza is kind of their call-sign.
I'll hop on the band wagon and write BF on my jersey # too.

In fact: we should ride BF: username on the number.
e.g. BF: Mash Master
...We'll be wearing Deloitte jerseys both days
So you're saying you'll look like this:

I'll look like the photo below, well, except for the fact that I'm male, have hair on my legs, less hair on my head, darker hair on my head, will be wearing a helmet so you really won't see my hair, will fill out my jersey a little more, will be wearing cycling shoes, will be riding a red road bike, otherwise, you sorta kinda get an idea what to look for. :D

Yeah, I think that's what our jersey will look like. I haven't actually seen it yet.
...and +1 on sending her. I'd follow her the whole way. :D
Here's the front of the jersey. I hear jersey sales and last minute team registrations were up this year.

I think I saw you a couple of times. Not many Iron horses out there. I was pretty nondescript. Gray plain jersey Saturday, and I was all black Sunday. Riding a 3 year old Scott Speedster in grey and white. Not a fancy looking bike, but it got the job done. No breaks, and no flats. I was happy. This is an as found pic. I changed a few things to fit me better.,,,,,BD

Does anyone know when/where we can see the Brightroom pictures?
I don't think I saw any BF'ers out there amongst the thousands of ppl. (big surprise, right?) Oh well. I'm looking forward to seeing the Brightroom pics too.

The only BF member I saw is Chinotex and that is because we rode together.

Hi there folks, I did not ride, but instead worked the hydration station at the Saturday lunch stop (Austin County Fairgrounds). It was great to see all who rode. I managed to make a few images and put them together as a slideshow. The music is mellow so don't worry about alarming those around you. Enjoy.

Yeah, I got a lot of comments. For people that sponsor me for $100 or more... They get there name written on my legs so they "ride" the route as well. Also put my wife and kids names on, since they truely support me by letting me go riding just about every weekend.

And thanks to you and all the volunteers that made the ride a huge success!!! Thank you thank you thank you ....

It was amazing to see all the volunteers... I mean, it's one thing to have other people pay (via donations) so you can do something you love doing, in beautiful weather... it's another thing completely to do the grunt work of making everything run so smoothly... I've never seen anything like it! We are definitely the 13,000 luckiest people in Texas!

Oh yeah. a HUGE thank you from me as well. I'd never seen anything so large, that was so well organized!
Although they helped, I don't think I can eat another banana for a few weeks, lol.,,,,BD

I went to try a new frozen yogurt place. Free yogurt, totally delicious. They had banana flavor. I regretted tasting that one... But man those 'nanas were a LIFESAVER for my energy.
HUGE thanks to all you people helping. Even funnier is that the girl who worked at the frozen yogurt shop was watching and cheering for us on the side in fayetteville.
:) small world.
If you saw me, on the first day I had a monkey on the handlebars, and on the second day I had "tattoo armwarmers" from primalwear on, and a specialized tarmac.
I was the guy hauling balls through the park. (going slow the rest of the time hehe)

Wow, I saw the monkey on your bike.
I felt like a world class rider the way all of the volunteers and town folk were treating me.
BTW; no line at the showers was nice too.

I think I saw you on day two.

I also saw you on day two! I made a comment to my fiance that I wanted to get some of those sweet arm warmers so I could look tough. She said they wouldn't help.
I'll echo everyone else's appreciation for the volunteers and organizers as well. The support was amazing and the energy was unbelievable!

Since I skipped out this year, I have to ask..
1. Did they still have the bubble machines set up in Fayetteville?
2. Was the farmer still out there playing his fiddle? If so, did he have groupies again?
3. Was the bagpipes playing on day 2?
heavydutytrek
04-15-08, 10:19 AM
1. yes
2. Yes. I didnt see any groupies though
3. I did not see any bagpipes
The guy in the white van was there sat and sunday. He made my day seeing him again on sunday.

The piper can be found in the state park on day 2.
Speaking of vans... I saw it in 06, but not last year. I hope the "FREE ICE COLD BEER" minivan shows up next year.

I rode through the bubbles, saw the fiddler with no groupies, and the bag pipe in full kilt was out there on day two about 5 miles into the ride.
I ended up babysitting my father-in-law, instead of working the breakpoints as planned. My wife worked the last breakpoint before LaGrange on Saturday, and Breakpoint 1A, the Valero station, on Sunday. She got a frightening-looking sun/windburn, but says she had a great time, and wants to do it again next year.
Here's a little video I put together of the 2008 ride.

Great slideshow. I like the composition of the photos and the arrangement of the slideshow itself. The photo of the single rider coming in to the lunch stop -- was that the first rider there? Nothing like lunch at 9:00 in the morning!
If anyone else has photos/video of the MS150, give us a link to check 'em out.

Thanks. I think that was the first official rider. I say official because there was one who got there at about 8, if not a bit earlier. So we were all puzzled, I did not get to meet the early rider to confirm the start point. Oh yeah, I love what you did with the logo, sweet intro.

I saw you in La Grange after you had just gotten in. You were talking about wondering how much drag there was with the camera being mounted on your helmet.

go buy your pictures and post the good one(s)
I saw you in La Grange after you had just gotten in. You were talking about wondering how much drag there was with the camera being mounted on your helmet.
Seriously? I took the camera off at Fayetteville and put it in my pocket because my memory card was full. Although I did calculate the drag as slowing me down by .012 MPH average. :p
Day two I had the camera on my helmet all day, including the finish. Unbeknownst to me my battery died about 5 seconds before I saw my family cheering on the sidelines. Plus, when I crossed the finish the announcers read my name, and I missed getting that on video as well. :(
Figures, this year brightroom actually got some nice shots of me and then I've got a camera on my head! :o
One more thing ... kinda odd how it costs $55 for a photo CD of all images and $65 to download the same images. I would have thought the photo CD would cost more since they have to burn the photos to a disc.
dr. nate
04-17-08, 10:10 AM
Maybe you were putting it back on, I don't know. You just had the helmet and the camera and were talking to someone about drag.
I was also surprised that it was more to download the images. I think they are way overpriced anyways. How much of my purchase (if any) goes to MS?
