Southern California - Red Sunset Jersey

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
This is the thread for organizing who wants this jersey & how we're going to do this.
We'll need 10 people, so as soon as 10 people express interest, we can collect the deposit & get the jersey in process with Champion Sys.
Jersey Count

I think you will need to include a price before you get too many responses, who then may back out when they learn the final price.

It's $45 for a jersey according to their site:
Our custom jerseys are only $45 each and that includes unlimited colors, no set-up charges and FREE FedEx shipping on all U.S. orders over $500!
So it should be that plus tax/shipping, unless you know of any hidden charges?

Call them up, ask for possible charges for:
-proofing/sample
-corrections
Find out if their "Free Shipping" is to the distributor (this would be you or UMD) or to the individual recipients. In the case that you will be distributor, you may need to calculate a 'base' shipping fee for everyone else. $5 is pretty reasonable if that's the case, if it's only a jersey.
Sales tax is 8.25% or so.

It sounds like they will be shipped to my house.
I expect it to be between $50 and $55, all told. We can say that the commitment is for the jersey for up to $55.
So, if I get 9 other people willing to pay up to $55, I'll talk to Champion & get it started.
Then collect deposits after it's confirmed with Champion.
I think I had 6 people interested in the vote poll, so I don't know how many will be buying it.
And, there will be matching shorts available.
If you want shorts, let me know if you want U-Panel, T-Panel, part-wrap, full wrap, whatever. I don't think there is a minimum for shorts as long as we have 10 jerseys.

There's no charge for a digital proof. A printed sample is possible, but you'll have to discuss that with them. Size samples are available for the cost of the return shipping. There's no sales tax. Shipping from the manufacturer is also included. For distribution, a single S/S jersey fits in a USPS Flat Rate Priority envelope.

I want one and if they come in women's cut I'll take another one.

Thanks! Do you remember how much they came out to?

Assuming you're going with Champ-Sys, they're $45/each, out the door. There are options such as zipper type, and cut at no extra charge. I just read (http://www.champ-sys.com/whatwedo.asp?SPID=53871&Title=USA+Full+Price+List&OrgID=1521) that the shipping is free for orders over $500, so you'd need 12 jerseys to qualify. So assuming you get that, cost would just be the unit cost of $45 + whatever you want to charge the buyers for their individual shipping/handling.

That's cool. It used to be just under $2 per jersey. Every little bit helps!
I have a sneaking suspicion that the other bike forums jersey won't get made. The designer is not involved in the process, and there is disagreement regarding the wording.
So, here it is folks. As official a so-cal bike forums jersey as we can get.

Why is the picture all blurry?
And the soviet font does not match the tropical image.
Either change the text or put a picture of Putin :)

It reminds me of the Impressionist school in art, like Monet or Paul Gaughin!

Yeah I'll give you that Tom.......but the font has to change. That's a definite deal breaker

have one you like better? We were going for a techy looking font without being geeky.
(We aren't married to it, we are open to suggestions. If everyone wants a different font, we can go with it.)

You might take a look at Magneto font (http://www.fonts-online.com/fonts/Magneto-font/7064.html). ;)
Very post modern techy looking font, although it may be too recursive.

We'd rather not have to buy any fonts.

It's available for free in Inkscape, as part of the package and Inkscape is an open source Vector Graphic system compatible with Adobe Illustrator, etc. It's available for free download and can work with Raster as well as Vector Graphic files. The .svg can be used in either the proprietary or standard .svg as well, and having the art in a Vector file will help avoid some setup cost as well. :D

There's the link. I use Inkscape frequently and once you learn the program, it's nice :D (and FREE!!!!!!!!)
You can also use it to generate .png's that will print high resolution for billboards :D

But my sister is using illustrator. How does she get the font into that?

That's easy enough, if she's using Illustrator, the font should already be in it......
I believe it's already in the standard illustrator package. :D If not, upload the file into Inkscape and then change the font layer, presuming that the layers haven't been merged on the original working file before exporting to a raster (.png).. Change it out, save as a standard .svg and voila!
Ok.
I'll take all font change suggestions to my sister. Then we can make the different versions & choose from there.

Please don't change the font, it makes the jersey.

I agree.
I think if you saw it with any other font, the original would be the clear winner. But if I can't get 10 people, then there's not much I can do.
Did you like the Rs and Ns turned around?

I just went back and checked my records. Between the two orders I coordinated for the original jerseys and the one that CyLowe did...we purchased 95 total jerseys.
Just my opinion...even if you can get 10, you might want to consider replacing the bikeforums.net text with something else. It seems that it's basically just a jersey that a handful of people like rather than something that represents the BF So Cal sub-forum.

I like the overall appearance, kind of doomsday look with soviet looking font. My gut reaction on seeing the jersey was not sunset, but rather nuclear explosion. I think this look just works.

Regarding the bf.net name on the jersey...
The reason one of the jerseys was dropped from BF SoCal is because it does not have the bf.net name on the jersey, even if it will be made and distributed at cost:

I hope I don't stir things up. Please resume the jersey discussion. :)

But it was a neutral jersey design. It wasn't promoting anything except the region we cycle in.
Like someone else mentioned in another thread, it's like a frame group buy.
Sorry to get off topic here....

These sunset jerseys have a nice (I think) font. It's kind of hard to see in any of these pictures though.

Brian didn't see it that way.+1. I agree with you guys too. I was just stating the fact of how one PM request was honored. W.r.t. other parallel scenarios (group buys, 705's, etc.), only time will tell what happen to those.
I honestly like this jersey even though I won't be ordering one. My post was meant to be a response to CJ's suggestion of removing the bf.net label.
Now back to the sunset jersey discussion (and sorry for stirring the pot). Sorry, kuf for side-tracking your thread. :p

I also think it looks like the beginning of a nuclear meltdown as well. I guess it's from the color and gradients. But it looks cool; and kind of matches the Russian looking fonts. :p

That's ok. I go off on tangents all the time.
Here's another one: Wasn't the red-star one very soviet-union?
Just continuing with the theme... :D
Keeping it very red was intentional, as cyclist really like red. Making it more yellow/less red is a possibility.
I think if we want a jersey to represent the group, we shouldn't be like 'it has to be my way or the highway'. Then it's just one person's interpretation.
Any suggestions to make it more representative of the group are welcome.
That's what I call it to. kuf gives me funny looks when I said it.
You should know what that look means by now: 'Wanna sleep on the couch, mister!?'

I think the font does not work as well with the blue as it did with the red. Maybe it needs something more modern and slick.
