I'm new to the list and have a question. I pushed the wrong reset button on my Cat Eye ATC computer, (the second time I've done it), and lost 35k on my odomter. Anybody every reset the odometer to include old mileage after it's been cleared. Sort of like turning the odometer backwards to sell your car, only going the other way to keep my mileage log building.

Absolutely! If I buy a new computer, I'll set the starting mileage on it to match the computer that I'm taking off. I want the odometer to be an accurate reflection of the miles on that bike. If I was mounting a used computer on a new bike, I'd zero out the mileage. It's usually pretty easy to do. Are you asking for help doing it, or just whether others think it should be done?

Thanks Dave. I'm ok with the zeroing out part. That's what I did when I shouldn't have - the ATC has an AC (All clear) and an Auto button on the back. The auto function is nice. It allows you to dispense with the stop/start function, the computer does it for you. I hit the wrong button and zeroed out my mileage. What I'm looking to do is get my 35,000 km back onto my odometer so I have an accurate record of the distance traveled on the bike. What I'm hoping to find is someone on the forum who has some thoughts on whether or not there is some technical cheat to get those numbers back.

Not sure about your computer, but when I reset mine or put new batteries in it asks me how many miles I have on it already.

I think that you will be able to input your accumulated distance. The instructions for my Cateye Strada include steps to do so. It says "Input" on the screen -- it's the mode after setting the clock and before choosing km/h and mph.

Hmm... well, I don't know what to say, because that booklet doesn't say anything about adding mileage to that model of computer.

Or you could keep a notebook or a computer log of your mileage and update it from your cyclometer once in a while. I log my daily commutes in an MS-Word file that sits on my office computer's desktop, and it takes 15 seconds every morning to add that day's ride. Occasionally I add details like "freezing rain - fell" to remind myself why I avoid the more extreme winter weather.

I'm currently using a Planet Bike Protege 9.0 (http://ecom1.planetbike.com/8002.html). I bought it from Jenson USA (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/CP707A08-Planet+Bike+Protege+90+Computer.aspx). Other places have it, but Jenson usually seems to have the best price. If you buy an extra mount for it (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/CP703Z00-Planet+Bike+Protege+Wire+Kit.aspx), you can use it on two bikes, even. Each bike has an odometer, then there is a combined odometer that tells you how far you have ridden in total.

I had a Specialized computer about a dozen years ago that also let me set the odometer. I wasn't aware that there were computers that *didn't* let you do that. I keep a spreadsheet, too, but I want to see my miles on the odometer! :) I'll have to be careful what I buy in the future. Although, unless I happen to have a bunch of $$$ laying around to buy a VDO MC 1.0+ (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/Profile.cfm?SKU=20547&item=40-2304&slitrk=search&slisearch=true), I'd buy another Protege 9.0 in a heartbeat if I broke mine.
