Living Car Free - L.A. the greenest city??

As I stated before in my previous post at:http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=405571, it will. But it will be sometime in the future as people are really addicted to the motor vehicle here-especially the largest ones they can get their eager little hands on.

On the legal front, California is definitely still the greenest state, and LA is the center of that. The Clean Air Act was spearheaded by California in the 1950s and 1960s. Currently, Cal. recently lost battles to independently regulate carbon dioxide emissions and to toughen clean air standards. The Bush Administration has successfully stood in the way of California's hard-fought efforts to reduce air pollution. :mad:

I wonder what would happen to these cities if they were forced to abandon their car-centric urban planning? Say, for instance, if everyone wanted to abandon the car infrastructure just as the bicycle infrastructure was abandoned in the early 20th century? If gas became outrageously expensive or the supply was in jeopardy... what would happen?

...Just a shame that anything actually green LA has is at the expense of Northern Californians. We are spending our tax dollars flooding our gorgeous valleys and blowing tops of our mountains to support the water needs SoCal's unchecked growth, unsound agriculture, and golf courses. Bike paths won't scratch the surface of what needs to happen do that armpit. Flee LA for the sake of the rest of us...(but don't come here!).
