Riding in today I'm smugly thinking how nice it is to have a good light. About 10 minutes later, I look down and see the
light is there, but the battery is still at home. Opps.

Just thought it might be amusing to hear of other opps events.

Popping a wheelie and then seeing the front wheel fly off because the quick release was not sufficiently tightened. Oops. That hurt.

I learned the same lesson in my youth. Mine resulted in a couple cracked ribs:(

I hate it when one is going up a hill, shifts to the small chain ring, and the chain slips off the ring down to the bottom bracket!

Very disconcerting, as one is preparing to really pedal hard, and there is suddenly no resistance.

Oops and OUCH!

I threaded some new toe straps in backwards once. On a club ride the next morning I kept cussing and fussing about "these cheap ass straps" that required me to pull down instead of up to cinch my cleats into the pedals. Returning home and looking closely at the bike on the work stand revealed the screw-up.:rolleyes:

Off to a ride with a couple of mates and bikes on the carrier on the back of the cars with the wheels removed and inside the car. My bike was loaded and just had to pick up the other two en route. Got to the ride and could not fit the wheels on one of my mates bikes. He had taken the wheels off when I picked him up and he had grabbed the wheels off his Old Mountain bike in the dark. 135mm rear wheel caused a problem getting into his ride bike that had 130mm spacing. We did find out that a 7 speed rear cassette works with 8 speed changers though.

I got lucky then, I only got cut and bruised.

Not actually on a ride, but during a service of the BB.

I took off the left crank no problem with my trust and much loved extractor. I then set about taking off the drive side crank... and it was tight, trust me this baby was gonna fight. But, knowing I was the intelligent human I was not gonna be beaten by any machine and I put the pressure on, only for the crank thread to strip, I was left with tiny spirals of aluminium at my feet.

I called the crank a few nasty names, bemoaned my luck and thought long on how careful I had been.

SO I decided to leave it, go to the LBS and get a new crankset. As I was putting it all back together I could only find one crank retaining bolt in the parts tray... I found the missing one eventually.

Still screwed into the crank!:o

That sick crunching sound I heard as I put my car in reverse and backed up was the wheel of my brand-new-only-ridden-once bike.

Last year on the first ride on my brand new bike.

I was at the end of my ride and cut though the truck weigh station. As I flew through there my wheels dropped into the slots on the edge of the scale. I toasted both wheels on my brand new bike.

Replacing front brake cable, unwrapped the bars, pulled the cable, put new cable in, re-wrapped the bars and noticed the adjustment barrel laying on the ground. Oops, start over.
