I have a Jamis Nova cross bike with Shimano 105 components and I want to convert to straight (Mtb style) bars. What components do I need to do this?

You will need the bar, MTB shifters (to match your rear cluster) and MTB brake levers for canti brakes. Opps, I forgot grips.

you'll need the bars and a stem that fits (duh), short pull brake levers (for canti's, NOT for linear pull v brakes), and shifters that are the same speed as your cassette that pull the proper amount of cable for your rear derailleur (anything shimano, or shimano compatible sram) that's about it.

edit: damn, too slow. grips are for babies.

when i embark on this sort of thing i always forget that i'll need new cables, housing, ferrules, cable ends :)

Does your Nova already have interrupter levers? It will be cheaper to just put interrupter levers on the bike, then you'll be able to brake from the flats, if that's why you want to switch. If you're having a shop do this for you it will cost you a lot, myself I would just get interrupter levers and maybe a shorter stem and maybe some shallower drop bars.

If you're new to drop bars, give them a chance, they may grow on you, and if properly fitted they're much more comfortable than mtb bars.

You may consider posting this as a Trade Proposal on the commuting forum. MY guess is that there are folks on that forum who will trade you straight across and it will cost you nothing.
