Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - I'm running a marathon in a month...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I ran 3 miles today. That's roughly 1/9th of a marathon. If I run 2-3 times a week, I should complete 26.2 miles in about a month.* :D Afterwards, I ate 2 slices of pizza and now I'm munching on m&m's.

* If my knees hold out, I don't get more blisters, and maybe get some actual sneakers.

That's 1 marathon more than I'll ever run.

Best of luck to ya. I can barely jog a mile right now without stopping. I'm trying to build up to 5k or 3.2 miles before July 4 and get a little speed with it as well for our local firecracker 5K. :D At this point, I need my bike to do the marathon distance:lol:

If any of you are serious about running to get to a 5k or 10k distance. Start out slow and try to gain 10% each week. I went from not being able to run more than 2 minutes at 6 mph to running a 10k at 7 mph. But, this was done on a treadmill with me watching my heart rate and working up to the distance. I am just now there, and have injured my foot, so I lost some ground for about a month.

If you are going to run, go buy running shoes at a running shoe store. Have them fit you for the proper shoe for your running style. Yes, there is a reason there are so many different styles of shoes. Let them watch you walk and jog, then have them show you the shoes that will work with your running style. Then you will pick the most comfortable of those and you will be better off. Trust me, I went through this, then found out more about the best shoe for my running and ended up with a messed up foot because I thought any running shoe would work. And then remember not to use them until they are falling apart, because they are not doing you any good.

Good luck with whatever you do!!!

Running is EVIL!

I used to think so. I have always hated it. Now I run 3 - 5 times a week and ride every day that I can. But, I set my goals pretty high and I am working to meet my goals.

Can it be called "running" if it takes 45 mins. to finish a 5k? Cuz that's how long it took me last night. As for doing 26 miles all at once, I'd rather use my bike for that.

Running is EVIL!
Truer words were never spoken.

BTW, it's not like I just decided to go and run 3 miles. I started on a treadmill just after new year's day. I didn't run outside until last month and yesterday was only my second run this month. I don't even like running, but I'm doing it to lose weight.

...go buy running shoes at a running shoe store.
Thanks. I was gonna just pick up a pair of shoes on sale at a discount sports store, but now that you mentioned this, I'll hit up the runners store instead. Nothing's on sale, but I should probably look at shoes like saddles; if they're not comfortable, I'm not going to run.

Going from a 5K jog to a marathon in one month. You're on a mission; that's a tall order and I wish you the best.

 I'm going to run the total marathon distance over the course of a month. That's less than a mile a day if I ran everyday.

Only time I'll run is if somebody tries to take off with my bike.
Or if there's free pizza.

Ran a half in February. Took me a week+ to recover from that beating. Ran a 10K in under 60min a couple weeks ago. That felt good.
