The more people, the longer the pace line, the more spectacular the skid marks. Sign up!

I was just kidding. It's a good ride and you'll have a great time! I don't recall seeing any fixed gear on this ride, what are you planning on bringing?

A fixed gear.

I need to get some riding in over the next couple of months. Let's plan on doing one of the rides, even if we're not up for the metric. I just need to have something to look forward to cycling wise. :)

OK, Darwin, I'll see about juggling my schedule to ride in this.

Awwww, Navin!!!

But when I look thru your post, I see "wedding(party) in Canada in AUGUST", "Girlfriend", and "I don't want to miss it", and I realize you have a pretty great deal for that weekend. We just can't compete with all that, nor should we :)

And how is the foot? I haven't seen an update in a while . . .

You will be missed, Navin!!

Beth

Hi Beth,

Thanks for asking about the foot. There really isn't much to report. I am STILL waiting for the wound to close entirely, when one is a diabetic this can take a while. There is no pain and there seems to be no residual infections setting in. When i had my first surgery back in August of 2003 it took 14 months for it to completely heal...this has been 5 so far. If i do not see any progress in another couple fo weeks i will go back to the surgeon and discuss other options, such as skin grafts and such. To be quite frank, I am growing weary of the whole affair and I am neginning to think that my idea of a titanium foor isn't so much of a joke anymore. I am also looking so forward to the wedding i have to attaned in Canada. I am now officially in the process of getting my immigration paperwork together so I can move there and be with my girlfriend (silly woman...she loves me:p) and spending time with her and her family is paramount to me now. I am sorry but she does rate higher than the BF gang, as much as I love you all.

Anyway I will be thinking of all of you and wishing you all a great ride with minimal mishaps and great riding weather. You know...even if I couldn't ride I would still come just to take pics at the start and finish.

Bless you,

Navi....errrr.... Brian:D

How fast you ride is not the important thing here. As I'm sure you know, it's just an opportunity to shake hands with the anonymous faces on BF. In reality, it's all pretty fluid on the road. Pick your ride, set a pace that you're comfortable with, and enjoy the adventure. :D The more the merrier!

I enjoy company when riding, which explains why I tour instead of riding "anything you can ride, I can ride faster" club rides. Seeing Lancaster County is hardly 'adventure' to me.

OK, I'll let you work on my schedule. I'm riding the Great Allegheny Passage the same weekend as Lancaster. Go to work! :)

But we need to be clear that there is no forum banning as a result of jack-assedry on the ride, right? :o

Hey! I resemble that remark!

My riding buddy just canceled on me so I am looking for people to ride with. I signed for the metric and average around 14-15 mph. This will be my first metric and I don’t want to slow anyone down. I just prefer to ride with others instead of alone. So does anyone have room for one more?

Have a massive airsoft op/cancer benefit the day before in upstate new york. May still check it out though - who needs sleep! hahaha

This would be my first metric - you have the option of going 25, 50, or 100km, right? And thats round trip?

Forgive the noob-ness :)

I'm bringing along a little more appropriately geared bike this time......for those little hills in the middle and the end of the ride :)

Sadly, I cannot make it now. Enjoyed riding this ride the past 2 years with BF folk. Perhaps next year my schedule will allow it again.

Mike, it's too bad that you can't make it. Hopefully next year will be different!

On a different note, for those who will be attending, what time should we meet for the photo and roll out?

Leaving earlier (8:00?) will make it easier towards the end of the day when the heat and winds typically kick in. Leaving later (9:00?) will make it easier for people who are driving in to Lancaster that morning. Not being a morning person myself, I'm opting for 9:00. Opinions?

This year my plan is to leave earlier (possibly before 8) and get through a little faster (minimal stops)... and I'm all too happy to do a lengthy meet-up at the finish.

Anyone in for that plan?

Earlier is better and a 20 MPH average would be dandy. Ho ho!

A 20 avg over the whole rolling ride is a little steep for me. . . I'm thinking 17-18, with very short stops (water bottle refills and I'll eat lunch when I'm done)

Beth

edit: again, I'll hang out at the finish all the rest of day to be able to see everyone. I'm thinking of coming down Saturday evening for the warm-up tour this year, too.

I'm going to say 8:30 with a 21.6 mph average, just to make things difficult :D ;)

I'm up for whatever, if we roll out late, we ride faster - if we roll out early, I'll be sleep cycling

See, it takes me the first 8 miles to see if the legs are going to warm up to the ride. 8 miles of early sleep cycling sounds good to me.

Look at this start...the MS ride in Lancaster County last Saturday (Millersville). We rolled at 6:45 a.m. It was awesome.

My plan is to sleep in like last year...take too long at breakfast...realize I missed the group start time because you call me on my cell and then blow by everyone trying to catch up only to realize I have passed everyone. :roflmao2:

Someone yell when I go by this year. :thumb:

Now why would we do that?

It was kinda fun watching you hammer up that little hill, knowing you thought we were up ahead. Actually I maybe did yell for you . . . sort of . . . :p

On the other end of the group, I'll do as last year. Leave approximately 09:05. Average may be 13 mph for the 25 mile route. Finish, eat and drive home. Other slow pokes are wilkum.

Yes.

Watch for it as you blow by. That is how you will find us when you've overslept and had that second cup of coffee.

I will be in the minority of green steel Serottas on the road. Shouldn't be too hard to find :D

I was wondering the same thing. Anyone know the number of feet of climbing for the metric?

HigherGround
07-29-08, 09:54 AM
If you search for previous threads on this subject, I believe the elevation has been posted. (Don't confuse it with the Covered Bridges Metric in October that is put on by the Central Bucks Bicycle Club, although people have compared the profiles of the two routes.)

I know it is subjective, but I would say that the route is flat to rolling, with one decent (but not too tough) climb. Many years the wind and the heat/humidity have been factors by the afternoon. Last year was cool and rainy though, so there are exceptions. It is a fun ride, and I think the course is one of the easier ones as far as metric centuries go.

grahny
07-29-08, 10:49 AM
^ +1... I remember one climb and didn't really realize it was much of a climb until I was at the top. Definitely flat/rolling by all standards. If I remember correctly I think it was in the neighborhood of 3,000ft of elevation.

IIRC, There is just a leeeeetle hill just before the lunch stop.....and a leeeeetle bit of climbing towards the end.....

......and a LOT of fun in between!

Here is my data from last year's ride.

Edit: Motionbased over exaggerates the climbing...its right around 3400 feet IIRC.

Registered. Ready. Now I'm just hoping my hip/knee are ready. Lately every time I hit around the 50 mile mark, my hip/knee have had enough and start stabbing me.

Rise above, right?

I think I'm going to attempt to roll out early - really early by previous years' standards. Some of my regular riding buds are rolling at 7:30 from the road by the porta-johns. Anyone in for the early start?

I think I'm ready. I have a new Specialized Roubaix Elite waiting for me to return home from my trip tomorrow. I hope to get in enough riding time on it to feel comfortable enough to ride it in Lancaster.
