07:30am Eastern Standard Time? Is the sun even up at that hour? :)

Apparently it is! Who knew??

Not being a morning person whatsoever, this new-found inspiration to ride early in the day is all part of my "getting out of my box" experience.

:D

Cell phone exchanges? pm me and I'll put a list together - one for the early risers, one for the later group. I'll be sticking around after the ride to connect!

Also, who's riding Saturday evening? I don't think I'm going to stay down there Sat. night. . . it's a 45 minute drive to get there in the a.m. But. . . a stretch of the legs to meet up with you fine folks would be worth driving down twice.

^ I'm still up for a saturday ride. I'll be down in the area around 3pm or so. I found last year's sat ride and put it on my garmin should we end up without a local to guide us (it was about 18 miles). We can also ride part of the sun course (do like an out/back) as the sat ride. Either way, I'll be on 2 wheels if in a group or solo come early sat evening.

Kim and I are registered, we're staying over in Marietta. We should be able to make the Saturday ride but we will have our pup with us so it will depend how he's doing. Not sure we'll make it for 7:30 on the Sunday as the dog will have to be walked beforehand, but we'll try.

Dang! We can't make it this year.

This was such a fun ride. Have fun, everybody!

No Lancaster for us this year. We've been away from home every weekend since July 5/6, and we're totally exhausted. See everyone next year, and score some Turkey Hill ice cream for me.

There may be a later start for the sleepers-in . . . the regulars I ride with around here have extracted the promise from me that I will be there to ride at 7:30, since I ditched them and rode with another group on the MS ride a few weeks ago. A promise is a promise!

It's a great group - probably a 17+ avg for the 62 - you're more than welcome to play!

Sorry to say I can't make it this year -- family commitments as well as general lack of training rides. I'll hope to be there for 2009. Have a good ride. p.s. 7:30am???? that's harsh.

Whatever is fine with me. I've often stated that the early start helps avoid the disappointments of exhausted supplies at the rest stops.

The weather forecast looks outstanding. :) Bring your sunscreen.

I'll create a poll for the start time (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=453708) as a new thread.

Does anybody know the street address of the starting place ?

This is approximate (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=590+Greenfield+Rd+Lancaster,+PA&sll=40.0538,-76.253057&sspn=0.011661,0.018454&ie=UTF8&ll=40.055131,-76.251619&spn=0.011661,0.018454&z=16&iwloc=addr). You will have no trouble finding the place from the Greenfield Rd exit of route 30.

Is the Merckx steel?

Grasschopper
08-15-08, 10:47 AM
Yes it is steel. I rode it last year whish is why I am thinking of bringing the Bottecchia...plus I think I need the fast wheels to keep up with Beth. :D So far I haven't ridden the same bike twice at CBM because I keep selling them...LOL.

HigherGround
08-15-08, 10:52 AM
Heck, if we're trying to keep up with Beth, I'm bringing one of these:

definitely go with the Bottechia then. Too bad the Merckx looks too big for me - assuming you'd be selling it to buy next year's CBM ride!

I could go for the bungee cord to stay with my wife on hills.....

Grasschopper
08-15-08, 01:09 PM
The Merckx (frame) was a gift from my boss...wont be selling that one for a while if ever. The Bottecchia I may sell though not as shown...I am kicking around thoughts of getting a TT bike but would need to sell the Bottecchia and my Cannondale Rush to make room.

RoadToNowhere
08-15-08, 02:09 PM
Keeping "up" with me?!?!? Ha!

Pssssshhhh...it's simple. New bike every year, bring the Bottechia. That way you have further justification for a new bike before next year's ride.

I'll be bringing my Serotta, which I have now determined is my "slow" bike. Rode the Cannondale a couple of times this week just because, and have realized that while it's not as comfy for a longer ride, it's definitely more snappy.

So y'all can consider this my disclaimer for the day :D

wow - can I get I get a job working for your boss?

About 7 years ago I wanted the Cervelo P2 cause it had rear-facing dropouts. I figure If I wasn't loving TT I could always make it a track bike of sorts. The other day I saw some guy, maybe about 60, and huge (6'4" or so) on one, set up as a fixie, not too shabby!

oooOOOOooo... is it disclaimer time? Sweet! I've had 2 broken spokes in 10 days, have been off the bike for a week and a half (other than those two said rides w/ broken spokes), and strained a muscle in my lower back yesterday and it hurts like hell to move. I will still attempt a 25mph average :D ;)

That's a good one grahny. 25 avg? When you are back and having lunch by 10:30, save us some will ya?

Let's see. . . I've had persistent IT band problems when I hit about 45-50 miles. And I won't have nearly enough coffee before the ride.

Well that was a little attended Sat evening ride. Grahny and I did 17 miles and noticed that there is a change in the ride. Something is different at the start...don't know what it is but the first part of the ride has changed. I say we don't know what it is because we never found the road markings...we found them for the end of the ride but not the start...maybe they will have signs rather than paint on the road...but clearly we saw some of last year's markings covered with black paint. We climbed one section early in the old loop and at the crest of this climb you used to turn right but that road had VERY fresh chip seal so I think they are re-routing around that. Like I said though we never saw where you were supposed to go. Evryone that has ridden the ride before will remember the end of the ride...it is unchanged.

I guess we will find out tomorrow.

As long as the porta-johns are in the same place and there's a butt in front to follow, it'll all be good.

See you guys in the a.m. - I'll be meeting up with a large-ish group (which will quickly dissipate) at 7:30. Look for some bright yellow Harrisburg Bike Club jerseys. I'll be on my green Serotta (not in the bike club jersey).

Later,
