This was a nicely routed and well organized ride. I'm not doing it again because it was just too long a drive for me, especially coming home, but I can recommend the ride.

Kim and I will be there. As long as someone can guarantee that grumpy b1tch from last year will be there to entertain us.

Hey I wasn't that grumpy...I was just having a bad hair day!
She was a piece of work...I wanted to yell to her old man "DUDE, RIDE, RIDE HARD, DON'T LOOK BACK!"

I don't think Cheri and I are going to be able to make it this year...but we're gonna try.

Thanks for putting this up, Grahny. I have it scheduled; and if I'm the "grumpy be-otch" to whom you are referring, then I will be there for SURE and I will taunt you a second time!

Anyone considering the Hershey Metric on the 26th of this month?

C'mon summer. I'm about sick of riding in the cold wind.

I'm gearing up for the Hershey ride and my annual "Ride Your Age on Your Birthday Ride" Yesterday I got in 41 miles and today I managed 47 so next Wednesday I should be able to make it to 57 miles for 57 years. (I'll just add Mr Greta to todays ride.) That should prepare me for the Hershey ride.
All of this of course depends on the weather, if we have April showers I'll probably not get out of bed. On the other hand if it's anything like today I just might start riding and not stop.

I can't get out today. GrrrrrrrrrrRRR. The first nice day of the year, and I can't get out. But I have 60 miles in for the week so far, and am hoping for 40+ on Saturday (rain/t-storms tomorrow).

Cudos on your 57 :) See you in Hershey,

LMAO @ Beth...TAUNT YOU A SECOND TIME?!?!?!"....not only are you a true gem, you are also a Python fan. I am going to see Spamalot the weekend of the 25th...can't wait!

I am still in the ambulatory boot BUT I have my orthotics orderred and also my new shoes (alas they are not cycling shoes), but it will be good to be walking somehwat normally again. I also hope to be back riding by next weekend as well. I am extra psyched because I won one of the Brooks Imperial saddles for the test they are running. I just can't imagine how much I am going to hurt after my first few rides.

I hope to be able to get back to lancaster again this year. If I do I hope I have a better year than last year and come out without bandages.

Beth, you have been a big help keeping me smiling with your posts since this foot thing started. I thank you again with a hearty ODDS BODKINS!!!

Hi Beth, Hi BAJ(!)....
The Lancaster ride was fun ... although I seem to remember an awfully smelly hotel. ugh.

I did get out to ride yesterday. My FIRST day on the new fixed gear. Ummm, that was interesting.
I'll be terrorizing Atlantic City in no time.
Maybe I should ride the fixed in Lancaster. That way no one can make fun of the triple!

Awww shucks Tom, you're too kind! I really WAS grumpy yesterday. The weather was beautiful, and I had no way of getting out to ride. I really had to scold myself to snap out of it.

JO! It's great to hear from you . . . bring that fixie . . . and if you bring the triple, I promise not to make fun of it.

Beth (who is currently trying to rearrange her afternoon so maybe, just maybe, I can hit a window of riding opportunity between rain showers:))

And that would be awesome. I still haven't been on the bike since last year's ride. I would love to try this ride again, with hopefully better results. I probably will not be able to go very far...may have to stick with the short route. It would be worth it just to see the BF gang again and maybe finally get mt meet Jo.

Neil, if there was ever a better host I have not met him yet... you made me feel truly welcome and I will always appreciate that.

It's nice to see you guys get so up for this ride. Our club puts a lot of time and effort into this event and I'm proud to be a part of it. I'm not much of a poster on here (more of a reader) but if you guys are going to ride in a group again wouldn't mind another rider, I'd wouldn't mind joining you. (I generally ride with the workers in the club, but this year I should be riding during the event)

In the meantime if you guys have any questions, I be happy to help to the best of my ability.

Mike, it's good of you to check in! The more the merrier, of course. If you've checked the threads linked through here, you'll see that we have done 3 years of these together with an ever-growing group. Always a great time, even with the crashes, rain, and bloody toes :D

Beth

edit: Having been involved in our club's spring metric the past couple of years (just held on Saturday out of Hershey), I know distinctly how much energy and effort goes into pulling these things off smoothly; glad you're going to be able to ride it this year. Come join us in Hershey sometime; our club rides frequently cross into Lancaster County (I'm from Mount Joy originally)

Now I am having issues with my orthotics (it was cutting my toe and has to be remade) and had to go back into the boot for the past few days and will have to be in it until the orthotic is re-molded:cry::cry::cry:. Damn it to Hell! Will this foot EVER let me ride again?!?! Why don't they just cut the damned thing off and give me a titanium one.?

Yes, that foot will let you ride again - because YOU are in charge of the direction, not the foot. Easy for me to say, I suppose . . . and I'm thinking you're not seeing it quite that way right now. But I'm betting your spirit will not let this stop you.

And Brian, think about this. . . if they "cut the damned thing off" you'd have to change your signature and everything. ;)

Thinking of you, Navin. . . keep the positive thoughts as alive as you can . . . and I'll send you some from here as well!

I'm at a really slim (10-20%) chance of attending this year after 3 years in a row. I've got a 6 month old at home (who will be be 9 mo. old in August, too young to ride unfortunately). I'm still in the process of negotiating 2 hour weekend rides, let alone training for the 100km. We'll see... August is a long way off and I've done day-of registration each year anyway. If I attend, everyone will have to look at cute baby pictures at every rest stop.

#2. Absolutely. We will allow no interlopers into a paceline :p

Beth 2 questions...when you coming up to ride in my neck of the woods? What bike should I get Ana? I am thinking about a Fierte Steel or a Ruby...anything else you would look at?

Hiya, G -

I'd love to ride up there - got any ideas?

So you're getting some company on the road - woohoooo! While I don't know what kind of riding she's going to want to do, my basic thoughts are these:

- I love my Cannondale - aluminum frame, with a 105 triple (gasp!) A great first serious road bike, it's snappy, stiff and responsive - and a good climber with the triple. Lots of options to spin up a climb or hang onto the 52 and hammer away. The downsides: on long rides (60 + ), it loses the comfort factor - even with a good fit. It can be a harsh ride. Also, the triple is a little temperamental. Too much shifting...too much skipping...and it's been tough to keep it well-adjusted. This bike will be my short-distance/rain/hammerfest bike.

- Then there's my new Serotta CDA. I really love this bike. Steel frame, carbon front fork and seat stay, seat post, handlebars - and an Ultegra compact double. Beautiful . . . it's a smooth ride - 71 miles in the wind a couple of weeks ago, it was comfortable the whole ride. No "beaten up" feeling in the upper body. It fits like a glove, too . . . and the compact is the way to go. I'm not missing the triple (except I miss the 52 when I've spun out the 50 on a downhill - some of us need to keep the power on in the downhills to keep up with you mighty powerhouse types)!

Hope this helps! Get her a good professional fit done - worth every penny.

Ahh Beth finally got a new bike...congradulations. What cassette are you running? I see that Specialized is selling the Ruby with a Shimano drivetrain but with a SRAM cassette that is 11-28...so you get that 50x11 for the top end and 34x28 for some low down goodness.

Notes to self: 1. Beth can spin out a 50x11 combo. 2. Draft behind Beth.

See y'all in Lancaster.
