What does everyone use to keep thier knees warm in the cold weather? I have nice leg warmers or tights that I wear, but my knees are still cold after a ride. I am looking to find a balm or something to keep them warm without the burning feeling of something like icy hot. My knees seem to be sore when I ride in the cold much more often than in the summer.

I know some triathletes use vaseline on bare legs, but I don't think that would work good with knee warmers... Maybe you should try "warmer" knee warmers or perhaps layers, however I don't know how comfortable that would be.

It doesn't get very cold here in the San Francisco Bay Area, but it's windy most of the time. I use DeFeet Kneekers and their Armskins. These are basically knitted Coolmax, but they seem to be much warmer than all the other arm and leg warmers I've tried (I own a number of different brands like Pearl Izumi, Castelli, DeMarchi, etc. and none of them are as effective as the DeFeet ones). Even though they have a pretty loose knit, they keep me warm even in chilly, windy, wet days.

Maybe you can wear tights and then put knee warmers on top?

Stay warm!

I also have the Defeet Kneekers. They're a great deal warmer than other brands/fabrics that I've tried.

I agree with the Defeet. I use them when stuff like the Izumi won't handle the cold.

Now I guess it depends on how cold cold is...

In 32 degree weather the Performance Trifecta tights provide excellent protection.

I usually put on knee warmers fairly soon because I'm aclamated to warmer weather (South Florida) so when the temp hits 60F I've got knee warmers on. @ 50F I'm in tights and @ 40F Im wearing the Trifecta. Of course I'm not in South Florida when I wear the Trifecta because it is never 40F here :)

I have a pair of WWII snow pants that are composed of fur wool and water proofed canvas you could use, could you try some sort of goretex windpants? Or you could use something made of wool, I rarely get cold in wool, or perhaps plastic knee pads like the ones floorers use. Maybe Capoline long johns, or those turtle fur neck ups, how about Rogain, hell just get drunk before you ride and nothing will bother you, anyway, good luck on the quest for warm knees, oh I had another thought, waders http://www.womeninwaders.com/
