Well, it looks like I'll get a chance for my first long ride tomorrow (since I got my 'bent). :D

I'm a Yard Driver (Jockey) Supervisor/Yard Jocky/Truck Driver and tomorrow I have to take a truck about 45 miles south and drop it off for maintenance. I ran the route through "mapmyride.com" and I only have a 300 ft total climb and 200 ft descent - less than my normal 7 mile commute.

Since it will take too long for me to wait for it (couple of days), and they don't have anyone available to follow me down and bring me back..... I figure I'll just take the 'bent and have a nice ride home. I'm taking a trailer down for repair also so I can put the bike in there. Best part is.... I'll still be on the clock :)

Other than water, lights, foul weather top and bottom, and my normal repair kit..... any suggestions?

Repair kit:
Chain breaker
CO2 inflator with extra cartridges
tube patches
bike multi-tool
Gerber multi-tool
tube

ahh yes. Well, they are a part of the kit too. Just forgot to mention them.

I prefer a pump; I'd be afraid of suffering more holes than CO2 capsules on hand. There are some stubby little pumps that can still get 50 or 60 PSI. The Topeak Mountain Morph is a popular choice, and not too long overall.

Sounds like you've got the bike part all set. How long ya been a jockey? I did it for 10+ years. Backed up near as many miles as I drove forward.

Oops. Missed seeing that you posted yesterday. How was the ride?

Been jocking for 3 1/2 years now - yard 'boss' for just over a year.

Well, the best laid plan go all to heck! On the way in to work yesterday one of my guys broke down so I had to cover the yard for 4 hours until he got in........ so I'll just have to plan a long ride..... nice thing is that Gettysburg is only about 30 miles away - now I just need a couple of real days off. :D

Charly, tell me about biking in the Gettysburg area. We're coming out there on an Elderhostel program in June and I'm planning on bringing the bikes.
