Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Any clydes riding with the Terry Fly saddle?

...and would like to comment on the experience? I'm considering getting one.

I'm using one. I've had it for about a year. I have no problems with it. This saddle has been used on 54 and 63 milers and I have came back without complaints. I must admit that I am looking very hard and drooling at the mouth at a Selle SMP Strike “Glider” or “Stratos”. I just like the way it looks and the concept of the design. But because of the price and I have never sat my "hind parts" on a saddle like this and rode for distance, I have put the temptation aside for now. But I'm sure I will eventually get one.

Until then the terry fly will hold me and its doing a darn good job too. I don't think you will be disappointed if you get one and I personally have never heard anyone state they had a problem with the "Terry Fly" saddle even though you may eventually find someone who did if you really looked hard and the reason it was not liked may not be applicable to you. Everybodys rear is diffrent....

I've been using one since 05. It felt real nice right out of the box. I did 23 centuries that year with no problems and a smile. But I was 220.:D.

I see they are about $105 at the shops. I pick em up at Performance when they go on sale for $69'ish! And I have picked up another for the tandem.

I put a couple thousand miles on one. It is ok, but I don't think that it is the best saddle for me. I have decided (for now) to use a saddle with out a cut out, but with a stiffer shell. When it was new I thought it was the best so I don't know if it or I have changed.

Bottom line is it will hold you, but comfort is specific to the individual.

Thanks for the replies. I see some on Ebay for around $75 new. I'm going to take the plunge and give it a try. Lightly used ones seem to fetch nearly that amount, so I don't think I have much to lose.

I bought one off Ebay this winter. I have only about 100 miles on it and the jury is out. I've been doing some adjustments and I think it will be good once I get more time in the saddle. The winter around here just won't give up!

I went from a Terry Liberator to a Terry Fly on my Sirrus. I haven't done any centuries, but it's been comfortable up to the 75 or so miles I ride on the MS150 legs here in Illinois. I have had it for several years.


My Randonee came with a Fizik Rondine saddle. My original plan was to put a Terry Fly on this bike as well, but I have found the Rondine to be comfortable as well. This was my bike for last year's MS150, so I have used the Rondine for some extended rides.

As someone pointed out, it's all about what's comfortable to you.

One other point for the Terry - they have a pretty good return policy if you buy it from them.

i have a terry falcon. i think it's farily similar to the fly. i got it direct from terry when they had a half off sale.....$42.00!

i've only ridden about 100 miles on it, but no probs so far.

Great saddle. No complaints

Just got my Terry Fly today from Ebay. Seems pretty firm but after 10 minutes of riding on my trainer it didn't bother me in any way. My stock saddle was positioned all the way back on its rails, and even when I do this with the Terry I'm positioned a bit further forward than I should be. If I run into any knee pain I'll have to look into getting a new seatpost. Looking forward to going for a ride tomorrow on it!

I liked my Fly CrMo well enough, the shape was a little wider in the middle than I liked, now using Fizik Aliante. Not sure it's completely perfect either, but it's definitely noticeably more comfortable to my body.

If the shape works for you, the Fly is a well made, and pretty comfortable saddle. If you are coming over from one of the real gel coated couches on a hybrid, you may take some time to get used to it, but it's worth the switch.

I had to get a new post with some set back too. This had nothing to do with the seat however. It was because of my legs and torso. I tried extending the stem at first from 110mm to 120mm but I felt weird riding it and went the other way. The setback in the seatpost did the trick.
