Has anyone heard any buzz about the Veloswap in San Francisco this Saturday? I would like to know more about the quality and quantity of the vendors before I make the 180 mile drive up to the city and back.

Never heard of it, although I may be interested in going. What exactly is it?

Rich, I'm gona be there with about half a dozon buds. if you have to drive 180 miles, you should get an early start and bring your bike...spend a couple of hours at the swap and get in a ride before heading back! Remember to stand back if you're talking to Bob Roll, his hands move pretty fast when he speaks!

How did everyone do?

I got there quite late, but it meant no lines or massive crowds (saw a complaint elsewhere - assume he meant very early on).

Downside: most of the merchandise was already "picked over".

Upside: got to meet and talk with Bob Roll, and had him autograph for my wife his book (should be a great surprise Christmas present for her - she's been a bigger fan, for a longer period of time, of the TdF than I am).

Yeah, it took about 45 minutes waiting on line to get tickets in the first hour, but I still had enough time to find some things I needed. First purchase was one Conti Grand Prix 3000 (retail about $50) in red for $35. I handed the merchant $40 and he gave me $10 change saying that he was glad to be able to sell the single red one he had. :) I should have not waited to buy some other things he had: LOOK red cleats for $10 (but I just put on some new ones) and a Selle Italia Flite TT for $70. I was hoping to find a better deal on the saddle elsewhere, but when I went back in an hour someone else was in the process of buying the saddle and all the cleats were gone. :( But I did find the seatpost I needed. Men's clothing was not real good, but socks were the buy of the day. A few other odds and ends and I was done in about 2 hours. Then off to my favorite Chinese vegetarian restaurant for lunch and then back home to the country.

Mmmmmmmmm, can't wait until tomorrow to play with my new toys. :D

I hope everyone else had a successful day at the veloswap!

I didn’t buy anything, but it was pretty fun to look at all the stuff, especially some of the vintage bikes they had around. Also got to drool over the Specialized S-Works Tarmac, and Giant TCR composites. I’m sitting here playing with the Bar Phat samples Specialized was giving out. Definitely a fun thing.

It was fun to see all the stuff people had hidden in their garages...one guy was selling the ITM magnesium stem for 100 bucks...it really feels like its only 100 grams. I think the most interesting booth was the Ritchey booth...the guy said that Ritchey is moving away from building bikes and is focusing on disigning cranks, stems, wheels etc. They're introducing some carbon items in 04...seatpost, handlebar and rims. They're also introducing their answer to low gearing without a triple crank...a double with 50/34 chainrings.

As for men's clothing, the Clif Bar booth was the place to be...they're stuff is made by castelli and the jersey was 25 bucks! A friend picked up a Burly mountain tandem for 75 bucks...the thing will need some work but it was fully functional and had an xtr rear brake.

Hi All

I was at the VeloSwap in San Francisco Yesterday and came across a road frame in the South Hall which is Interloc Impala Reynolds 853 tubing. They had show special of $399.00 brand new with a matching color carbon fork. Was anyone there that may have seen this. I don’t remember who the vendor was. I may like to hook up with them on maybe getting this frame if anyone has anyone info on this vendor.

Thanks

I wish I would have known about this swap meet. Where can I find information about swap meets in Northern California?
