I'm sure it must have come up before, but I searched and only found a couple of threads.

I'm trying to determine the best way to attach my GPS/smartphone to the handlebars of my bike.

RayB (on another thread) told me about a clip that seems to clip into your phones existing case. I was wondering what other people do?

I've found a clip made to hold my phone (http://www.gpsforless.co.uk/product_details.php?id=11492) which is good.
But now I'm convinced I need to put the phone in a waterproof case something like this aquapac as I often get caught out in the rain.

And if I do that, then it's not going to fit into the clip made for my phone.

blah blah blah, whine whine whine, woe is me ....

I just wondered what other people do to mount their GPS to their bikes?

I stick my phone in a jersey pocket or inside a handlebar bag. If it looks like rain, I put it inside a zip top sandwich bag.

I use my palm treo 680 with pathaway software for geocaching. I was thinking about putting my phone on my handlebars, but I realised 2 problems. I would need to get some sort of weatherproof container (all commercial ones seem not worth it), also the display on my treo isnt that big, so even while riding I wouldnt tell much whats on the screen, I would have to stop anyways and probably move closer to the display and my vision is 20/20. What I do is place my gps receiver in my backpacks upper most pocket, and phone in my backpacks side upper pocket. Takes only 5 seconds to get to and check up on the status of my trip. I wanted to have my phone mounted on the bars, but after trying it like this, I think I prefer this way.

Here is the end result of the ones I mentioned in the other thread. I have to admit, I did not consider an all weather application as it if rains any of my electronics go into my pannier and I just take a known way home. If you need something water proof this may not be the answer for you. I do like the mount you posted a link for above.

I did choose to have a case where the cover comes over to protect the lcd. It gets quite hot and sunny here in the summers and I did not want to expose at all times.

I was in a store at the weekend and stumbled into one of these for £5. My phone fits perfectly and the buttons/touchscreen seem to work ok, so I bought it.

I tried it out this morning on my commute to work, it hangs round my neck inside my jacket and is easy to get to, it's handy that i can old it up to my face to see the screen in sunlight.

GPS is amazing, who knew that my 5 mile route to work involved 1090ft of climbing and a 5.01% gradient!

Great that it does the trick. I have to admit that is the biggest problem with a fixed on handlebar solution that I find. The sun problem and getting a viewing angle if things are not right you end up yanking it off the mount to get a glimpse anyways.

That looks awesome. I think I will start looking for one of those. A lot easier to get too then having it in a backpack. And you dont have to worry about over exposure to the elements.
