Touring - Rohloff shifter on trekking bars

I have a Thorn Raven Nomad with Thorn's "comfort bars". Unfortunately I don't find them comfortable and I would like to switch to something else. I was thinking of trying trekking bars or butterfly bars but I am wondering if the Rohloff shifter will fit.
I know Thorn doesn't like the trekking bars, but I wonder if they are incompatible with the Rohloff shifter.
Anybody know?

They will work.

"The standard twist grip shifter fits straight handlebars with a 7/8" (22.2 mm diameter.) This includes basically all upright or "mountain bike" type handlebars, but does not include drop bars as used on most touring bikes."

Click on the handlebars of the bike and it shows a picture with them.

Thanks Robert.
That pic was exactly what I needed to see.

No problem :)
So this is the bike you have now, it's set up the same way?

Did you want to go with trekking bars for more hand positions or just a better hand position?

I met some tourers passing through from Switzerland the other day. They had butterfly handlebars and had the Rohloff shifter on the the right-side bar end -- that is, near the middle of the handlebars, just to the left of the right thumb. They had done a lot of miles and said it worked really well. I didn't ask what brand of handlebars but they looked like the Nashbar Trekking ATB/Hybrid. It looked like an excellent setup.

Yup thats the bike. Same colour too.
I have fiddled with rotating the handle bar, but it is just not comfortable. I need more and better hand positions. I guess I could put on bar ends or inboard bar extensions.
I have moustache bars on my Atlantis, I thought I would give the trekking bars a try on the thorn.

Consider some Titec H-Bars if the Trekking bars don't pan out.

Those are just some pics off flickr that show what the H-bar looks like. I've got one mounted on my Big Dummy, but no useful pics of it at the moment. I've got 7 bikes in play at the moment - one of which is a recumbent. The bent is great, but it isn't the only game in town...:D

This is my Thorn Nomad with the straight bars and barends I fitted. Worked a treat.

maybe a stupid question but how did you get the grips off?
or did you just cut the ends off to get the bar ends on?
You can always put the shifter on a bar-end clamped anywhere you want on your bars or stem.

I unscrewed the Gear Changer and moved it inboard. Then slipped a narrow screwdriver beneath the end of the grip and sprayed WD40 inside and the grips came off very easily.
Incidentally I tried the Argon Barends and others before opting for the method shown. I found that using Gel tape as shown made for a more comfortable platform.
