Great Lakes - Any way I could try out a Dynamic Sprint?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Please no comments on the inefficiencies of a shaft drive - I'd like to ride one for myself, and see.

I'm considering purchasing a Dynamic Sprint, for use as a commuter. The low maintenance appeals to me.

Anyway, why I'm posting in here... I'd like to be able to take one for a ride before I buy. And, as Dynamic doesn't normally sell at LBSes, I wouldn't be able to do so normally.

So, anyone in central OH have one? I'd need either the 22" or 24" frame. (Not sure which, which is part of the reason why I want to test ride.)

Offtopic reply: (tm) If low maintenance appeals to you, also check out single speeds or fixed gears. I pretty much don't ever do anything to mine.

Just saying.

+1

I have read about some shaft drives being rather expensive to maintain due to high wear on parts.

That mother is pretty heavy...
Interesting.

I have read reviews on here that said that the Dynamic shaft drives weren't bad at all on parts wear.

And, trust me, I know about SS and FG. Actually, if I were to go that route, I'd go internal hub - I need my gearing.

Hello bhtooefr: I have a Dynamic (but I live in SF!). I can't give you a test ride, but I am generally happy with mine. I have only had it for a couple of weeks. I commute with it about 60-80 miles/week. I'll let you know how I feel about it in a month. :)

jlibson,

How did your Dynamic bike end up being? i'm curious about it and looking into purchasing a new bike. I'm also in the SF area. If you're still around, I'd love to hear what your experience with Dynamic has been.

I'm not Jlibson, but have a Dynamic shaft-drive - about 4 years now and 5000 miles. Ride it most days. Never had a problem - other than a flat, but nothing with regard to the drive system. The 8-speed hub is great. (Sacramento)

Hey there Richiro: I live up in Santa Rosa now. I would be happy to let you kick around on my bike. I probably have about 2k miles on it or so. I am still very happy with it. My main problem is that I have a crappy grease gun. :P

I have actually called them since that post ~ and they told me the bike is probably too big for me (i'm short with, unfortunately, disproportionately short legs for my height).

How are you finding the gear ratios? Do the 7-8 speeds do the job?

I appreciate the offers (too bad I'm not 1-2" taller that I would actually fit the bike and be able to purchase it :( )

Happy riding...

Richiro
