Commuting - How many miles/Kilometres are you expecting to pedal this year?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Me: 1,300 Kilometers (800 miles).

I just started riding my bike last week; and I am planning to pedal from April to October. Our temperature here is not so pleasant between November and March; I am not an all weather rider. Last year I had about 1,200 Kilometres (750 miles), the year before about 1,300 Kilometres (800 miles).

That would be on all my bikes (mountain and road, relatively vintage) and for all purposes (to/from work, run errands, and recreation). All my trips would be fairly short, less than 8 Kilometres (5 miles), on average 3 Kilometres (2 miles).

I do not have a speedometer/odometer on any of my bikes. I use Google map to estimate my distances.

4100km 2600 miles. last year.

How far is your commute? Mine is 6km/3 miles. I am all weather though.

Goal is to break 1560 miles. Should be pretty doable since it's an average of 30 miles a week.

Looking to hit 4500 miles this year. I'll be up to 1065 by the end of today.

I'm going to shoot for 3000 mile this year again. Some years I get over that and some years a bit under. But as winter has been a bit mild this year I have a lot more jan - march miles in already.

2000-2500 miles. I commute April to October and usually tour for two weeks. I had 1900 last year and got a late start.

4,750 with a challenge goal of 5,200. Of course that's a lot more riding than my 2-5 mile commutes...

I did 1600 miles last year, spring till snow fall. This year I'm aiming to break 2000 miles, spring to snow fall. with my 34 mile r/t commute it should be a breeze ;)

Last year I had 10,120 miles. This year, my goal is to again break 10,000.
I do lots of sport riding in addition to commuting though.

16 km commute and about 160 commuting days (I don't ride on ice), so 2560 km commuting and maybe another 1000+ km recreational/utility riding. I don't use a cyclometer anymore so I'm trying to make a conservative estimate

Should fall somewhere in the 5000-6000 mile range if I don't do any big tours. I do ride year round so it's not that impressive.

10,000 miles but with my incident last month I think it will be scaled back a bit.

I'm expecting about 3500km for the commute (all weather, all year) and hopefully at least another 1500km for sport. My "for sport" trips tend to be off-road and a lot harder than the road miles, so those trips usually aren't very long in kilometers.

haha i feel like such a poser, maybe i'm just lucky enough to live in a good location,
For school and work commuting for this upcoming spring and summer about 910miles , that is excluding around town/weekends/fun races and rides.

Probably finish out the season as late as possible, but in the end before winter hits I hope for 2,000miles

This is my first year at making an effort to be as car free as possible.... Now i just need to get my kogswell P/R to make it that much more of a joy to commute.

My first year riding was ~1500km. My second year riding I ended up with ~6000.xx km end of season.

This year I would love to see 6000km but in reality I think realistically 3000-4000km is more what I can handle. I've still got 4 months of 'winter legs' from not moving so only the legs will tell how many miles I put on.

I have no specific mileage goals - my goals are really more centered on being able to wear smaller pants :D. As it stands, my commute is 37 miles RT, so it is pretty easy to rack up the miles.

My plan is to only ride once a week for the next month or so - I still need a few recovery days inbetween rides - I could probably do every 4th day or so, and I am still inclined to pick the days with the best weather. Each time I ride, it seems just a little bit easier however.

4000 miles (6437 km) is my general goal. I promised myself a new bike if I ride 5000 miles, but it's not looking good.

I only have around 500 miles so far. I really need to pick it up as soon as the weather stops sucking.

My goal is 2500 miles. My commute is 34.2 miles round trip, so if I go 3 times a week it's almost exactly 100 miles. Average 3/wk and i'm at 2500 miles by the beginning of October, when the weather and lack of light make it much tougher.

I do about 4000, maybe 4500 miles a year. 21 miles a day so about 100 miles a week, every working (non-vacation) week. I live in Michigan, it's pretty easily ridable all year round, with studded tires. It does get a bit nippy sometimes, this year I never rode below -5*F. Last year it got down to -25*F two days, that was pretty frigid, but still there's no such thing as a day when I'd rather drive. I do drive occasionally but it's almost never due to the weather.

I have started making exceptions for more than 6" of snow and no chance for it to be plowed; a couple of months ago I tried to get to work through 12" of wet, unplowed snow on the hilly, gravel back roads, and I had to walk the bike up every hill. It took forever to get to work.

You pedal a lot!

The distances of my single trips:

To work - 3km/2 miles
To tow a bike trailer getting my little one back from daycare - 1.5km/1 miles
Recreation with family - any where between 1.5km/1 mile to 8km/5 miles
Run errands - any where between 1.5km/1 mile to 8km/5 miles

I am not feeling riding bike when it goes down to about -10 Celsius / 14 Fahrenheit. Up to this week, the temperature for my early morning riding here is about -2 Celsius / 28 Fahrenheit. I hope it will warm up really soon.

Well, I estimate commuting alone covers about 800kms/month, and I'm car free so,...if I can get a second full on Winter bike set up so I can switch as needed, I'm guessing maybe 10,000km for the year.

I've got a shade under 1600miles in so far, not all of which is commuting miles though. I'm aiming for 5000 miles commuting, 10000 miles total.

Given my work commute, if done by bike in full, is 66 miles RT, it's achievable so long as I can sustain riding that far for however many days/week.

So far I've managed 1/5 and 0.5/5 full commutes the first two weeks at this new job. When I do a bike/train/bike commute, it's more like a 10 mile RT when not factoring in my daughter visits, etc.

Did 6800+ last year w/a goal of 7500 cycling miles and under 5000 for my truck. Managed to keep my truck about 7000 miles last year. Had a hernia operation, colonoscopy, full quadrant sinus/septum surgery, rotator cuff injury and was unemployed for alot of the year. Laid off from GM/Saturn. This year I'm over 3500 for the year and my truck is below 3000 since inspection(Nov. 07). Got a steady 'temp' job in which the commute is almost exactly the same mileage as the Saturn/GM commute...just a little more urban. My health isn't an issue and I feel some weekend centuries coming on when the weather breaks. I may be able to reach my goals this year, Lord willing and the creek don't rise. :D

Same 4.5 miles per day, 3-4 days per week I've been doing for the last 4 years...call it the grind to/from The Grind. I don't understand the interest in keeping track of mileage, myself.

I'm aiming for over 6,000km this year. that includes all cycling, including touring and some events. I managed nearly 6,000km last year and I was only aiming for 5,000.

My main aim is to do more kms by bike per year than I do by car. I managed that last year hopefully will do the same this year.

I moved to a new job with a shorter commute (6.5 miles one way) and I'm scaling back on weekend and ultradistance rides this year to focus on hiking and trekking. So, I'm thinking that I'll probably just do 4000 miles (little more than 6000 km) or so.
