90 year old guy sets the nation record for the 20K time trial in his age category at Mission Bay.

I like this because:

1. I just got an invitation to join the AARP in the mail. I hope I am still on a bike at 90.
2. I now know that there is at least one racer in the world I can smoke.

I met him many years ago at one of the Scripps Ranch Old Pro rides on July 4th. Great guy!

How many other people are in his age category?
What, exactly, is his age category?

80-84: 33:59.62
85-89: 35:10.81
90-older: 44:53.98

Seems like every five years until 90.

I met Gordy when he was a college counselor at the school I was going to!! He was just a recreational rider at the time, but once he retired, he started training and racing pretty much full time. I want to be like him when I grow up!!

On the same thought, there was a story on MSNBC about a 101 yr old man that ran in the London Marathon this past weekend. I LOVE his hydration strategy!!

I saw that story on saturday when i got back from a ride in Chula Vista/Coronado/downtown and though what a coincidence. It was the first time i rode in the area, and i was on a bikepath and bridge that was named after him. http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20040709/news_7m9bikeway.html
It was a nice ride up till the end when i crashed and went down hard.

I hope to be long dead when I'm 90. There is no way I'll have any money left by then...or 80 for that matter. :)
