How can my fiancee avoid tan lines on her arms besides wearing a long sleeve jersey all the time? We're getting married in October and tan lines would look very weird in her wedding dress. Any ideas? I told her to try a sleeveless jersey but I guess there would still be tan lines.

Her wedding dress is strapless. I don't think they make a strapless jersey :(

We slathered a bunch of sun tan lotion on her today but she still got a slight tan.

Does anyone know of any super light summer long sleeve jerseys?

I use spf60 and I still get a tan. Maybe do some beach/whole body tanning to even things out so it won't be as obvious?

Maybe rash guard? Not sure how breathable they are.

Errrrg... uneven tanning is unavoidable if you wear clothes. Dave's idea about doing whole body tanning to compensate is good.

Oh, is she comfortable cycling in those tube-tops they use in tennis? It might work...

She could also use self-tanning lotion to even out the whiter areas, but test waaaaaay before the wedding because the color might come out funny.

1) Temporarily relocate to a nudist community
2) Sunbathe topless in the backyard
3) Tanning salon
4) Tanning lotion (tested as mentioned above)

listed in no particular order :D

She's pretty pasty white so she doesn't tan very well normally, especially not in a tanning booth. But all the hours in the saddle are definitly giving her a slight tan.

She's told me that she's going to sew some sleeves onto her short sleeve jersey... we'll see how that goes.

If the sleeves are of a different weight fabric then she'll probably still tan unevenly. Like, I have a shirt that has different types of fabric making up the sleeves. I stayed out all day in them, and at the end of the day the spots that had a lighter fabric were more burnt than the ones that had a heavier fabric.

Check out arm coolers -- lot easier than sewing sleeves and should block the sun.

I often wear a long sleeved running shirt. You can easily find dry fit stuff that's long sleeve and plenty comfortable. E.g.: http://www.tworoadsfitness.com/runsplicels.html

Have you considered tanning salons to make the tan come out even?

Try these (http://www.sunjerseys.com/).

My wife has a few and likes them a lot.

I found her this
http://www.teamestrogen.com/images/products/CA-2803-ALL2_lrg.jpg

Says it's made for exactly what I want.

"At the special request of our customers for a lightweight sun protective jersey, Team Estrogen had this jersey tested at Suncare Research Laboratories for its UV protection factor. The results are in, and it has an official UPF rating of 30. Lightweight DrycoreA soft, dual component fabric that wicks moisture away from the body to the exterior of the fabric for evaporation. fabric has a waffle-texture and effectively wicks away moisture. Now you won't have to let the rising temperatures keep you from enjoying the ride. Bring on the sun!"

Hope it works!

Do you know about coolibar.com (http://www.coolibar.com/) and their suntect line??

Lots of stuff that could be worn cycling with a UPF of 50+.

Like this.. (http://www.coolibar.com/01254.html).

I think their paper catalog is easier to look at than their website.

Definitely use LOTS of sunscreen when riding, and the lightweight long-sleeved jersey will help a lot. However, being a pasty-white gal myself, I can tell you that even six months completely out of the sun will not be enough time to completely fade the tan on her arms to match her un-tanned shoulders and decolletage. Soooo . . .

I recommend talking to her dressmaker, and/or consulting some wedding fashion catalogs/magazines and having a little lace bolero jacket made. The lace will disguise the differential in skin tone (especially if she is conscientious about using the sunscreen and wearing long sleeves for the next six months), and will complement the strapless gown in a really lovely way if the same lace is used for the jacket as was used for the dress. The dressmaker will instantly know what I'm talking about and can make up some sketches.

Something like this, only made of lace instead of satin:

Also, don't forget Scarlet O'Hara's trick of buttermilk on the tanned skin to help bleach the tan.

Thanks for all the ideas.

I might look into those cooler sleeves myself. Been looking for white arm warmers for a while, gotta try to be more euro.
