Introductions - Hello

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
View Full Version : Hello
Hello folks,
Glad I found this site. This is Mark, I'm 54 years old and currently living in bicycle heaven, Arizona. I haven't riden a bike since 2000 and would like to get back into the sport. I'm not sure what type of bike to get at this point. Can't see myself doing any competition, but I can see myself using a bike in daily commuting, light grocercy shopping, weekend rides with friends, and hopefully work into some touring. The Schwinn World Street model looks like it might work, and I read some reviews on the Trek 520. Does anyone out there have any knowledge on these two bikes or possibly others I should look at? My budget won't allow me much past the $1000 to $1200 range.

Hi Mark, you might want to look into something like Raleigh's new touring bike, available for about $1200. It would fit the bill for all of those options.

This is a photo of the bike--and everything that you see is stock, including the Brooks saddle, the Brooks leather handlebar tape, the rear rack, barcons. It also has front and rear brakes. It's a steel bike, too. There could be other options, but this is pretty nice for off the shelf.
Welcome to BF!

Thanks East Hill! I found this bike on the net Sunday evening and saved the page : http://www.raleighusa.com/bikes/road/sojourn/. The bike is called the Sojourn, but the site didn't offer a price. $1200 looks to be about the same price as the TREK 520, but with disc brakes and fenders already mounted. Is a commuter/touring the type of bike your currently riding?

If I could stretch my standover height just a little I would be getting that Raleigh! But the smallest they offer is a 50cm :( .
I have 12 bikes, not a one of them a touring bike.
If you look at my signature, there are photos of almost all of my bikes in the Vintage Bicycle Liberation Front :D !
