Northern California - Modesto cyclists?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well the way I see it, we're both stuck in California's equivalent of the Appalachia.

Yo! We should do a ride from Patterson to Mt. Hamilton and back sometime... That would be a trek and a 1/2. Bring your extra lung.

I've been wanting to do that ride for a long time. There have been several opportunities for me this spring, but alas, something else has been in the way.
Better hurry up and organize this before it gets too hot.
What w/e looks good?

June 14th is the Canyon Classic Century. That may be the same route. I would be good for a weekend ride.

Thanks for the info kaiserboy. If we do it on June 14th it will be a fully supported ride... ;)

Eee pa !
$40 for a lunch on the top of Hamilton? You can get a sammich and a cold beer at the Junction Cafe for a lot less.
Lemme check the family calendar on the date when Mrs BR gets home.

Well. Twas a suggestion. Benefits North Modesto Rotary. They look like nice folks in them pictures.
Nother' weekend's cool with me. I have the Sierra Century the Saturday before that anyways... My kids will start to forget me if I bunch these rides too close together. :D

Mt. Hamilton sounds like fun. If you are in the MJC area, a buddy of mine and I do a loop thru the orchards on the west side fairly regularly.

I've always wondered if there was good riding through there. Is it crowded w/ car traffic?

There is a metric century Sunday 4/20 in Lodi called the "Zin Spin"; flat course through vineyards. This will be my first. They have signups the day of the event. You can also sample wines at the rest stops :D

Orchards aren't too bad. there are spots that are a bit hairy- going over the overpass on coldwell, coming back on Kiernan to Tully is ok since it has a bike lane.

I never noticed that but if you look at the geography from I-5 it looks like constant up/down so it could very well be. They're calling it a hillclimb so it's probably right. I'm still up for it.
Hills out that way look cartoonish actually. I think I can see Pee Wee's Playhouse on top of one of em'...

yup, haha. living without a car didn't give me many options for getting out of the city for better rides. I ended up going up and down the calaveras and around brookside a lot. fun stuff...
