In addition to cycling, I also play softball in the spring/summer. It seems that when softball season rolls around every year I have a problem with putting weight on one of my legs when I run - - the best way to describe it is it gives out sometimes. It doesn't hurt - - just kind of buckles. After I've been back playing softball for a while it doesn't bother me anymore. It never bothers me when I ride. Anyone else had this happen? Does it maybe have something to do with cycling being a "non weight-bearing" activity?

The instability in your knee is probably something that is not affected by cycling and only becomes apparent when you are doing weight bearing exercises. Get it checked by a doctor knowledgeable in sports medicine. Most likely he will prescribe PT to strengthen the knee.

OR the instability is caused by something from riding and corrects itself when you play softball. I too play softball and ride and I've never had those symptoms.
