Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - 36 spoke rims - for the big man

I am 202lbs. I am not really fat since I lost about 20lbs since January. But, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good online place to get beefy 36 spoke 700C rims ? I want to buy a wheel smith rim, but I can't find anyone that sells their brand online.

I have a Kona and seem to have done a bunny hop somewhere and created a flat spot in my rim.

I always check AEBike, since they seem to list everything offered by QBP (so probably available to order at your local shop as well).

For 36 hole 700c, they have a good selection, but no WheelSmith.

At 202 pounds, unless you really do some rough riding, there are many rims that will do the job.

i love harris, great source of info and a good place to find out whats the most you should have to pay. i built up some 32/36 wheels with velocity aerohead and aeroheadOC last year and really like them. I built them myself (ive done it before) but let the lbs do the final true/tension since i don't have all the equipment here. you could also check out speedcific. they seem to have a good reputation for custom wheel builds. of course there's always peter white

This seems wrong but I measured from the center of the crank to the top of the frame where to seat tube goes in. This is what I got.

Seems normal, thats probably a 60cm center to center (center of crank up seat tube to the center of the junction between seat and top tubes)

Also to save you some pain in your hunt for a Wheelsmith rim. They don't exist. Wheelsmith makes spokes and nipples, not rims. Might I recommend something in a velocity rim the dyad, synergy, and deep-v rims are all appropriate.

DeepV in 36 wold be overkill at you liteweight:D...I'm 220-245 and no problems after 13,000 miles on a 32 Deep V. I bet a CXP33 would also be fine with a 32 at your weight.

But make sure you get a good builder.

I'm 220 and have 28/20 Deep-Vs. No problems at all in a year-ish of ownership.

+1 on a good builder. Proper spoke tension matters almost as much as rim choice.

I run 16/20 spoke Neuvation M-28's, and I weigh 250. No problems whatsoever.

I noticed that Rocky Mountain cycles sells a lot of reasonably priced, Clyde worthy wheels on Ebay. I have seen plenty of 36-40 spoke 700c wheels (frequently Mavic A719's). I wonder how the build is. Does anyone have experience with them?

I bought my hybrid rims from Rocky Mountain and was quite please. They are on the lower end Mavic A119's as that bike does not get the miles it used to, but had a great experience. The A719 are a nice wheel. I believe King Termite bought some of those for his commuter from Rocky Mountain. Might PM to get his opinion.

Also, the Wheelsmith wheels are typically a LBS based operation. A LBS in my area is an authorized repair shop for them and can get them. Check Wheelsmith site and they should be able to tell you the dealers in your area.
