I went to the Waffle House last night during the 3AM rush after the bars close and when I put my bike in the booth across from me, she told me I couldn't bring it inside. I don't carry a lock, and i certainly don't want some cager hillbilly stealing my bike, so I said:

"Don't you know I'm saving the planet?" barely controlling my anger. Then she threatened to call the cops. All cyclists should boycott Waffle House until she apologizes to me and/or gives me a free pecan waffle. I bet she voted for Bush, stupid *****.

Chill out, man. She has to enforce the rules...she doesn't make 'em.

EDIT: Just read page 3...I see the satire now. :)

I was pleasantly surprised there were not more people who agreed with me

All you had to do was keep it going a little longer. This was amusing.

Christ. Y'know, I actually drove an eighteen wheeler back in the Nineties, I even had a Boxcar Willie CD to listen to, but it took this thread to make me realize the Harmonic Convergence my life has undergone, what with my main ride and user name and stuff. :p

Okay, my point is made. For those that did not catch it, I merely made a tongue-in-cheek thread poking fun at the bizarre sense of entitlement and disregard for others I see on this subforum, as well as Commuting and Living Car-Free. You could replace the words "Waffle House" for bank, grocery store, lecture hall, etcetera, and you'd have the type of thread that shows up once or twice a week in A&S. The point being made to fellow cyclists:

Get your heads out of your collective asses.

Given the prior IHOP and Planter Peanut ventures, i was amazed how many of the AnS citizens continued to take the hook.

If the dopey buggers weren't SO DANG SERIOUS they wouldn't have to read past post #1 to figure it all out. You are right, these jokers ARE too funny!

Well, not everyone knows and loves Kris like we do, so they can be forgiven for not getting the spoof immediately, but to post from the hip like that is foolish in any thread. Not that I mind - I can always use a good laugh.

I would have told her it isn't fair, then looked at her arse and said 'you can hide yours in the crack of your fat arse'. Come to my Denny's in Willoughby, Ohio and you can park your bike inside neext to mine when I am working.

OK, you got me. I was going for it for awhile -- I was even getting ready to say, "dude...buy a lock."

In my defense, I used to live outside Atl., and my x-wife's best friend was a WH waitress. We spent enough time there for me to actually SEE stupidity like that!

The bottom line - The spoof worked because plenty of posts just like it have been posted to BF by whiners with oh so tender sensibilities who are seriously outraged by the manifestation of the mean cruel culture that is seriously oppressing them.

KP - are you telling me I shouldn't have the 5 star restaurant babysit my bike? Hey, I gave them a tip. Not sure I trust the valet parking though... They might scratch it with a Jag or something...

I had a feeling this Waffle House story was BS going by Kris's troll history. Kris does his best to turn the general public off bicycling by its cyclo-supremacist attitude. I'm glad most bicyclist are not like it.

If you are too lazy or afraid of the "extra weight" of a bike lock, don't expect private businesses to guard the bike for you.

It might have been more effective to have calmly said "then I won't be giving you my patronage" and left quietly.

Anyway, you don't have a magical right to store your bike inside; especially if they provide a reasonable place to lock up (like a decent rack, or something that works just as well).
Heck, you don't even have a right to that!

Without the <sarcasm> tags I take a post at face value. Are surprised that many other people did as well?

I'm not surprised at anything after reading the posts of people on BF who insist that the most preposterous conjuring about bicycling be taken at face value, especially if dressed up with a label of science, "selected data," cultural implications,or psycho-babble phrases.
