My apologies again ... I started working on my last paper, and very shortly after I did, the forum went down.

See this thread for further explanation: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=406125

It should all be good again after April 23rd. :D

pretty much unusable at the moment.

Yep, unusable.
Archiving the current data base and starting fresh, like frameforum recently did, would be preferable to the current state of performance.

Yep ... I slipped out to run some errands. I'm back now, and will be starting to work on my paper again momentarily. Be prepared for more Database Errors!! :D

You all might as well go out and enjoy riding your bicycles this evening for me, since I won't be able to ride.

I think it is linked to having 100K users - and so many on line at the same time. They have outgrown their infrastructure.

I swear all my favorite forums are having these kind of problems. I think the underpinning of the forums wasn't built for this size - and so you get deadlocks, etc.

Or it could be that the hamsters are on strike...

Hamsters? I think you mean monkeys (http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=13653).

if you do a whois on this domain, it comes up with CARSDIRECT.COM as its domain server and godaddy as its host. my guess is this site is hosted on a shared machine with many other sites running many instances of mysql and the load is making it throw db errors. it was down for hours this afternoon.

2:37 p.m. EDT and the board has gone from snappy to 30+ seconds for a page to load.
Guess it is time for the server to take its daily nap.

Owners, it is getting time that y'all throw some money towards this site.
The server/host is obviously over taxed, the skin on the forum is ten years old and looks it.
The place is in need of a general overhaul.
I hate to say it but y'all bought the board for its ad revenue and it is starting to feel like the bare minimum to keep it running is all you are aiming for (mechanical side, not the moderation, you are doing very well there). It is an attitude that will not entice members to join or stay, and the ad revenue will suffer.

Same here. And the fact that the powers that be (not the mods) have not responded to this thread does not bode well.

A few more crashes and continued silence on their part and I'm leaving.

Hi everyone,

I know this is very frustrating and you are right that the site performance has been unacceptable. Over the last few weeks, we've been doing regular diagnostics on the servers. In the next two weeks, we will be adding new hardware and site performance should improve dramatically.

I apologize for the frustration and thank you for your patience. This is a great site and we know how important it is to keep it running smoothly.

the search still sucks and returns blank pages and horrible results. The whole sort by relevance/date/ect feature is garbage too.
