Anybody catch this on BBC2 Scotland or the BBC iPlayer? I think it's also on YouTube.
It's the last part of a 4 part series (30 minutes each).
Mark Beaumont, a 20 something Scott is cycling around the world. He just has to cycle across America, then from Portugal up to Paris where he started. Apparently he gets knocked off his bike and mugged in America. (I guess that makes up for the American guy who was cycling acround the world and had his bike nicked from outside a church in the UK:()
Mark's hoping to do the 18,000 miles around the world in something like 210 days, 2 months less than the current record, which means he's cycling about 100 miles a day come rain or shine for 7 months!!
He's got those trekking type handlebars, like me, so I can appreciate what he's going through. My 5 ride to work is probably quite similar to his 100 miles through the mountains of Pakistan.
He's burning something like 6000 calories a day and as it's an unsupported ride he spends quite some time each day trying to find enough food to keep him going. ( I know how that feels )
It's an amazing achievement and an engaging documentary. Well worth the 2 hours of my time.
