Southern California - Anaerobic Threshold testing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does anyone know where they do testing for LT or anaerobic threshold in SoCal? Just trying to find something close by.

Pretty far from you, but Phase 4 in Santa Monica does Blood Lactate and VO2 max testing.

There's a similar place in Pasadena, but I can't remember the name of it off hand.

Mike will test you. He's based out of Don's bikes in Rialto.

He's not gonna hook you up to a respirator or draw blood, but it's a pretty thorough test (and *hard*. Be prepared to suffer.).
He'll set you up on your own bike, on a computrainer, and run you through a series of tests to determine your HR and power training zones, and, if you're re-testing, to measure your progress. He uses some sorta finger-monitor for blood O2 measurements. Might not be quite as accurate as drawing blood, but I think it's close enough for anyone who's not a TdF contender...
Tell him Trevor sent you.
Full disclosure: I get no referral bonus. Just a happy client. (I'd be happier if I were *winning*, but my lack of results, as of late, has nothing to do with Mike, and everything to do with my half-assed off/early season training.)
Noticed you're in Yucaipa. I went to HS there. Have a road bike, or just the mtn. bike listed in your profile? You do any of the local roadie group rides?
I had one done (http://www.photoscene.com/kimandsteve/283/vo2-test-results) by a guy that travels around (http://www.xtremeo2.com/page/page/4399247.htm). If you get enough people, he will come to you.

I only have a mountain bike. The funny thing is, is that I got my bike fitting from Mike. Dons bike shop got me in touch with him and he did a great job. Noticeable increase in sustainable power with less fatigue. I just talked Mt.SAC college and they do them also. They only charge $60 compared to a lot of other places charging from $150-200.

My friend got two done at Mt. Sac a couple of years ago. Their equipment was very old and outdated. He isn't the fittest guy but if the numbers they were giving him were accurate he is doing alot with a very low VO2. VO2 isn't everything but I think they were way off. Their breathing apparatus wasn't tight and I think they were losing alot with the gas exchange. No I am not a scientist but I have done a few VO2 tests. You could also try The Club in Claremont. They have a banner ad on socalcycling.com.
