I just bought a used Santana off Craig's List. It's a Sovereign with a Columbus steel frame, tig welded. It has a Dura Ace derailleur with a 6 speed cluster. Has down tube shifters which have to go. Black, in good shape, $650. How can I find out when it was made? Is there a serial number somewhere? I've been looking for a used tandem for a couple of months and was bummed when I missed out on 2 Burleys. I'm stoked (but my wife will be the stoker)!

First place to check is the underside of the bottom bracket(s). It could be partially obscured by paint or cable guides.

Thanks, I'll check the bottom bracket.

Congrats on your tandem purchase and welcome. Nice buy for the money, if it is in half as good of shape as it looks, you have some great riding ahead. Make sure your maintainance has it reliable... set it up comfortable for you and the Mrs and go have fun.
