BTW, can we use other places to order jerseys from?
This place seems to have some good designs. I don't know about their pricing though.

I grabbed the template from their website... it's different from last years template.
I'll have a go at something but I'm not the most artistic.
'Sorry, a little OT, but Googling for some penguins came up with Ron's next avatar :p

That kanji lettering should say Nor Cal.:)
Cool designs, but...
The first image conjurs up snow, more tahoe-ish than the bay area.
The second is too Japanese and doesn't say NorCal to me, imo.
I still think my idea of the SF skyline would be cool. ;)
But whatever design we pick should have a penguin on the sleeve and the 34 on the neck! hehe!

I'm not a fan of most semi-custom designs and full custom is usually very costly with high minimums (although if we combined all three orders from last year, we could have met any minimum). It'd be expensive to buy a jersey, bibs, and vest from another vendor whereas it'd be $148 for all three with Champ-Sys (add $43 for fleece arm and knee warmers too).mo

Like I said very early designs. Really meant to satisfy someone who gave me a hard time. ;)
I was thinking the way you guys were thinking. I have something more serious in mind. But its getting late and I still have to commute tomorrow. I guess I'll try this at work tomorrow.:D

Guys, the way we do jersey's is we vote on all of the entries. That's how we did it the first time. If you don't like one, vote for the other.
If you want something specific, try to come up with it yourself. I really have no idea how to include fog on a two tone jersey.....
I was trying to incorporate the big wave into it.

Are there limitations on the number of colors? Extra charges for more graphics? Limitations on letters printed?
EDIT: Please ignore. I just found their list of prices and what are charged and what are not.:D

I don't get the penguin connection to Northern CA. Would someone explain? I agree that the wave doesn't say NorCal either. Yes, it's Japanesee but there are many Asain cultures in the Bay Area and tsunami waves don't mean a damn thing to them 'cept disaster. Regardless, I'll probably order one just to be one of the cool kids.

The penguin is in reference to one (small) group ride up Mt. Hamilton where it was so cold, they were seeing penguins (in the photoshopped picture).
Wow, nice debate... My thoughts:
The wave? Reminds me of Mavericks, which.. in here in Northern Cali, but no exactly a cycling attraction. I think Pheard is on to something with the cultural twist, although my personal thoughts are thinking on the side of caution, and avoiding too much cultural influence as to not offend any of the easily offended populus that is Northern Cal.
Curtis you've designed some snazzy digs, you got any designs in the works?
The penguin is cool, but I don't want to have some Linux lackey asking me what version I'm on when I wear it.

I like the really cool colors. Its bright and looks cold. Brrrr. Perfect for the upcoming hot summer days.:D
The penguin does look out of place on the sleeve. How about a penguin silhouette instead where the bear silhoettes used to be?
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z269/PinkyJonJon/jerseycopy.jpg?t=1208413251
Nice. I like how the image blends into the jersey as opposed to looking like a picture pasted onto a jersey.

I like this color scheme... bright and simple. Although the three horizontal spikes seems a bit off to me. I'm just not into sharp angles but that's just me.
The penguin does look out of place on the sleeve.
How about showing the back of the penguin on the opposite side of the sleeve?

WOW..Look what I started.. Hehehhe...I'm in for a jersey..maybe a bib too!
I agree with the lighter colors as I was heating the f' up this last weekend and I was sleeveless! So far I like Pheard's wave (Orange & Blue) but we need more local references to denote norcal..
Gee3 has good ideas but NorCal is more than just SF isn't it?
I'll see if I can throw a design into the ring once I figure out how to do pictures that fit in the template with a decent resolution..

I like the blue and white colors, although I really dig the Orange wave fade, i think that says "west coast surfer" more than anything. Mt Tam or Diablo perhaps as a background? I would say Diablo being the most central to all of us? I am way up in Sonoma so that is central to me.

Somewhat associated with design, I think we should use some of ChampSys' stock colors. I remember that the blue from the last jersey was not and people that got shots/bibs had to settle for Black/yellow instead of a matching set. Just a thought.
Huh, I actually found one version of the jersey that I did for last year, on my work computer, no less.
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/7467/jerseyorangemc1.th.png (http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/7467/jerseyorangemc1.png)
I had a ton of different color combinations mocked up, but the rest are likely lost to the ages. The interest was nil, anyway. :) Maybe I'll see if I can put something together this year.

Any interest in paying more for a better quality jersey? Our club's jerseys are $75 but they feel great (Voler).

Champ-Sys has these colors available for the shorts:
lycra colors available in black, red, blue, navy, green, gray & orange
I noticed that navy is included in there...wasn't the last jersey navy/yellow? Or was it midnight blue?
There is no color limitation on everything but the shorts so we can be photorealistic if need be for the jerseys but we might want to tone it down just to match the shorts?
Boy this sure as heck beats the crap out of actually working..

I actually looked at voler before and they are quite expensive..I think pricing might be a deterent to participation in this group buy..whereas champ-sys only charges 45 for unlimited colors.. voler wants 90 for 5 colors...

I'm really feeling blue and orange for the colors.
Can I make a wild comment that why does the jersey have to have something visual that represents norcal?
An attractive jersey doesn't need something from norcal on it. All socal jerseys are just attractive in their plainness.

You're missing the point Pheard.. we're NORCal.. ;)
Name me some norcal things, I'm going to add a bunch of them falling like they are scattering from the top to the bottom of the jersey.

So uh yeah, both Pheard and BlastRadius' designs are very cool and I'd wear either. Perhaps I'm a stickler for process, but maybe there should be a deadline for entries, then a poll to decide among them?

I played with the design again. For some reason I'm more partial to it being about cycling or the forum, and less about the region we're in.
Not sure if this is my final entry however.

Basic Graphic Design hints from a graphic design teacher:
Think about what you want to say. What's your message? Is it about NorCal? BikeFourms? Cycling? What's the point. Why should there be a NorCal edition of a jersey? Remember that less is often more. Have one clear point, don't toss in everything you can think of.
Make a list. Really. Do it. Come up with some key words about your message.
Then make a list of ideas that come to mind when you hear your message words. Don't worry about looks at this point. Just think about what the words remind you of.
THEN you start looking for, or creating an image and a perhaps a combination of those words that graphically represent your idea. The best visual ideas will somehow have multiple meanings that work together. They'll be a surprise. Maybe not a huge surprise, but at least a little.
Otherwise you end up sticking on images that are so obvious (like a bike) that you know you don't really like even as you put them there. Avoid the obvious. Approach obliquely. Have fun.
Oh man, I'm totally going to design one with a cycling jersey on the front!

I hear ya, good pointers. Honestly I'm fond of the look minus the biker. I don't really see a need for any pictures or anything on the jersey period.
The only goal for me is: simplicity, and coolness factor, while trrying to avoid adding any images.
I'd be up for one, no mater the design, just one suggestion, how about putting the year on the arms or somewhere.

Shouldn't there be a small jersey in the picture of the jersey on the jersey?
That'd be opening a can of worms that just shouldn't be opened. It's a jersey jersey, not an infinite recursion jersey.
I don't know how happy I am with it, but here's something I put together.

How about the vector version of either:
