It wasnt bad.. But here goes..

normally I would say

"Hey, this is YYYY, met you at _____ . just called to say hi. Gimme a call when you get a chance, my number is XXX.. or else ill try to catch you later."

So I started off on plan and said "Hey, this is YYYY, met you at _____ . just called to say hi"
Everything is going to plan at which point i, for some reason said.. "and... ", I tried to save it with "hmmm shoot the s*** I guess" What the hell was I thinking!!!.

I followed that up with "well if you gimme a call at XXX that would be great, else Ill try and catch you later"..

Well, if she's truly interested, and has a sense of humour, you might survive that one.

Otherwise, she might think it's a rather odd thing to say, and back away from the phone slowly and cautiously.

Thanks East Hill. That was what I was thinking. I am hoping for the former because I did get to talk to her quite a while and she seemed interested. (Fingers crossed). The worse thing to do would have been to leave another message after that one ;).

I can't relate. I would rather leave messages and I hate it when people answer the phone. :) That being said, I wouldn't leave a message for a gal I liked as I am married and all, but for other types of calls, I prefer to leave messages.

Hmm.. I am much better dealing with people face to face than voice messages.. Email would be fine but not a proper way to ask a girl out.

Hire that guy with the really big voice that does all the movie previews...get him to leave messages for you. That should at least merit a callback or two.

Man, it'd be annoying to get a message that consisted entirely of "hey, it's me."

At least "Hey, it's [name], give me a call back when you have a chance." Plus a number if there's a possibility it's necessary.

Lesson learned.. I am not losing too much sleep either. Its finally freaking spring, its nice outside and I can ride my bike.
