Road Cycling - I'm drooling over this one.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm drooling over this one.
I don't need it (have a Lemond BA 1998) - but it is a beautiful bike.
My size, also!!

2002 Lemond Zurich Triple 57cm - $ 1629.99
The 2002 Zurich boasts a Reynolds 853 steel frame, Bontrager Race Lite wheels, and Shimano Ultegra Componentry, but the truly amazing thing about this bike is the ride quality. Lemond\'s geometry positions the rider slightly farther behind the rear wheel, improving climbing ability and stability when descending. In order to appreciate the ride of this bike, come in and take one for a test ride today! Size: 57cm, Color: Blue/Silver

I'm glad it's not my size, since I just got a new '04 Buenos Aires. I'd be kicking myself if a better-component version in all steel was available cheaply (I monitored the LeMonds on Ebay for several weeks before pulling the trigger on my new BA).

Well, the final bid and winning on ebay was $1,250 plus shipping of $55.00..
I am torn between thinking this was a good deal for an unknown bike with supposedly 150 miles on it and the disadvantages of not having dealer support and sizing and adjustments, etc.
A similar bike was for sale new at about $1,650, and this one sold for $1,250.
Was it a good deal?
Your thoughts on a mostly unused Lemond Zurich?
Best $1,650 new or
$1,250 (plus shipping of $55) for total of $1,305 used???

Used every time for that price difference. Can get new shoes and whatever else with the difference. That is a very nice bike.

Ebay in the states seems to be turning out like this most of the time. There are so many people on the prowl, it's almost turning in to a free market situation.
I pretty much think that is spot on what it's worth. $300 risk between new and 'used'. I would probably go new for the piece of mind.
I'm drooling over this one. Only 100 will be made and I can't afford one.

Of course you don't need it BUT you WANT it....get it, hahahaha!!!!

"Sell what people need and you'll make money - Sell what people WANT and you'll be RICH!"

I think I'd be buying new at those prices. Bicycle Village had an '02 Zurich (blue/silver) in store last time I was there (about a month ago) for around $1600. Deals can probably be had on any old stock '03s too (red/black). This one on eBay is an '01. For the $300 difference you'd get a brank spankin' newer model bike, LBS support, and virtually no risk. The installed flight deck computer on the eBay bike adds a bit of value, but still not enough to be worth it for me.

Anyone looking for a deal on NOS (new old stock) bikes? The LBS, Beacon in Northfield, NJ, has an '01 or '02 55cm Serotta CSi in yellow/red with full Ultegra for $1800 the last time I ask (~ 3 months ago). There is a demo one on eBay that starts at $2499 (over tomorrow) and a new one will run about $4000.

Coincidentally, I bought a 1999 LeMond Zurich (after verifying with the owner everything was sized for my fit) on eBay for the same price, $1,250, in 2000. I ride the bike every day, didn't have a single problem, and the deal was more than worth it considering the $400 savings from a new bike.
I think the winning bidder in this case got a great deal, just as I did.

Pretty efficient market, IMO.
I'd probably go with with new at that price differential for the peace of mind and real warranty, plus LBS support to get fitted, etc. (unless I were REALLY stretching financially to afford that caliber of bike)
