Can I use a hyperglide cassette on a uniglide hub, chain etc.? BTW 7 speed.

Yes, Hyperglide cassettes will fit on Uniglide hub splines (but not the other way...). Also, Hyperglide cogs can only fit in one direction, uniglides were bi-directional.

I'm surprised that you would still have a Uniglide chain, seeing as how that standard is something like 12-15 years old. I certainly hope you aren't nursing a 15 year-old chain along and expecting it to have any life remaining...

Thanks Dave!

This is an older very large frame MT bike that I got almost new at a steal and have made a commuter out of. It has 7 spd with like a 11-29 or so cassette. I never drop down into the small ring so I was looking to aquire a very tight steped cassette like 11-19 (I think) because I miss the close changes. The chain has less than 700 miles on it and is in very good shape. If I need to replace the chain I will, but if it will work I would like to keep it. BTW I have 8spd barend shifters on it that work just great and only have a dead click at the high end of the shift.

Will the chain work?

I also noticed that they didn't make the UG very long?

I'll let you in on a little secret that Shimano, Campagnolo, and all the others don't want you to find out: Any chain of the same type will work on any manufacturer's cogset. Some may work better, but they will all work.

Thank's Dave. :p

I did notice one day that my Trek came from the factory with 105RD, Tiagra FD, SRAM PC59 chain. I think it shifts every bit as good as my friends 100% Ultegra! ;) Maby I just keep mine tuned better!
