For someone living in a huge city full of cyclists and fixed gear riders, I feel kinda lonely.

Perhaps its the fact that I stayed back a bit to work and all my friends are finishing their school years, perhaps its the fact that only one of them ever rode, and hes AWOL. But im growing kind of antsy. I ride alone to work and back, and in the evenings I hack around aimlessly practising track stands and listening to music.

Its nice, but I miss companions on two wheels who just like to ride with no real point to it, people who dont mind smoking a spliff and wandering wherever to sit around and chat and people watch. Adventures, that sort of thing. There doesnt seem to be anyone in my group of friends or coworkers who loves bikes and cycling as much as I do, let alone whod come out and play once in a while.

Perhaps im just a little high maintenance, but for a fixed rider in a metropolitan area...

Anybody else feeling a little left behind?

Find a bike shop and get paid to play in the evenings, or find a bike coop and spend some time volunteering. Both good ways to meet new cyclists.

i always wanted to work in a bike shop! you know thats a really good call? I hadnt thought of that. The guys at the shop are great too and they represent the whole spectrum of cycling (except recumbent and tandem). I have a fellow brakeless fixed rider in there too who is pretty cool...

+bonus, when i stopped by the other day, my LBS used my bike to explain how to do a fixed conversion correctly =D. that was just the kind of kudos i needed to perk me up.

*looks at jsharr in awe* you...are....right....?? *headpops*

(btw, whoz bikepunx?)

Hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. Please do not let my rightness this one time change your overall sense of dislike towards me.

I bet it is a T town area bicycle club. just an unedumacated guess.

Might be worth checking out. Or PM the OP and find out what Bike Punx meant. Could have been an insult and your only choice might be a katana duel. Hope not.

*loosens katana in sheath* I dont think it will come to it this time.

Apparently i know someone who knows someone who rides with them, seems like a critical mass deal but more local? i dunno. will look deeper into rabbit hole.

Find a local group of MTB riders as a change for off road fun?
