Touring - Touring shorts like my old Cannondale shorts?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I used to love riding in my old Cannondale shorts back in the 1980's. Is anyone making anything like them anymore? I'm referring to the blue touring shorts with the side pockets. I'd kill for a vintage pair of the Cannondales or at least something like them.

Not sure what yours looked like but I'm interested in something like my Patagonia Standup (http://tinyurl.com/47795x) shorts but with zippered pockets
Here are some I found when Googling "Cannondale touring shorts" Men's (http://www.adventurecycling.org/store/index.cfm/product/220_37/mens-jg-touring-shorts.cfm) & women's (http://www.adventurecycling.org/store/index.cfm/product/221_37/womens-jg-touring-shorts.cfm) and I also found these Cannondales (http://www.rei.com/product/747863) at REI, these J&Gs (http://www.bicycleclothing.com/Mens-Touring-Shorts.html), and these (http://www.aerotechdesigns.com/baggy_bike_shorts.htm) (I like the Vagabond line).
Cheers!

The best way I can describe the original Cannondale touring shorts is that they were built a little like Sportif shorts but a wee bit baggier, larger side pockets with snaps, built in cycling liner, and they came in dark blue. If you bicycle toured in the 1980's you know what I'm referring to. There was a time when these along with a white Bell hard shell helmet, a cotton t-shirt, and Cannondale or Avocet cycling sneakers, were part of the cycle touring uniform.

I had one in Khaki, the liner was like a thin flannel synthetic nap.
great shorts. they sort of look like military 5.11's is the closest I can describe them.
(cargo type shorts)
I had the full get up, the avocet shoes in navy, the bell helmet with the visor.
and went on some AYH weekend tours.

Hey Acoldspoon - was just surfing the net "Cannondale cycling shorts" and my first hit was your thread. A bit cold now, over 4 years ago, but I was looking for EXACTLY what you described. In fact, I am wearing my 30 year old pair right now, having had them repaired yet again after many many years of faithful service. Did you have any joy finding the same thing in your searches? I am in Pennsylvania for a week, but come from, and returning soon, to Australia. Would love to buy another pair - best short I ever bought.

Given that the OP hasn't posted here in 3 years, I don't think you're going to have any luck.

Probably true, but in good faith it was worth a try. I guess I never know what might come out of the woodwork some years hence either ....

What is your size? I have two pair of Bellweather cycling shorts that I'd sell, which are basically Cannondale knock offs. They are basically new. I think worn once (I have shorter legs and they were too long for me). I'm in Pennsylvania too.

Here's some "touring" shorts with pockets:

I personally prefer basic lycra bike shorts (http://store.aerotechdesigns.com/meprocyshbis.html), and I think anything fancier invites problems, especially pockets.
