I am looking to build up a single speed for myself. I'm pretty new to the quality aspect of building a bike. You're input would help.

If you're not planning on ever running them fixed, I might contact that guy. I think $75 is a little much though, see if you can talk him down.

I don't even think $75 is high... if you're positive you'll never want to run it fixed.
that wheelset is a perfect way to try a ss conversion without dropping a ton of money into it. if you enjoy it, resell the wheels on craigslist and buy some nicer ones.

I'd probably try to "view them" and do spin 'em to check out trueness/roundness... to me "Symphony" reads "I beat the hell out of these wheels." And maybe shimmy the spindle a little and see how beat up the bearings are (I'm guessing they use cartridge bearings, but I have no basis for that... anybody?)

If they weren't gently used, I might try to bargain a bit.

yeah, i have a mavic cxp 22 fixed wheel set right now, but they're on a beater, and i want to build a new fixed and put this set on my beater. also, do you see those as white or just silver with some sort of effect by the camera?

Hmm..
Alex does make white rims, and those definitely look white to me.
I'm pretty sure the 08 pistas come with silver rims though.. two of my friends have them.

symphony is the subway stop. if you knew that though, then i would like to know what you are getting at. thanks for the input. i didn't even think about looking at them for some reason. absent minded i guess.

yes, I'm aware... I was a messenger and cab driver in Boston.

Symphony could mean the part of the South End right behind the Colonnade, or more likely, it means the Fens... and Fens + Bianchi Pista sounds like a college student playing around with a fixed gear in an ungentle way (a theory that would seem to be supported by the stripped lockring). Even if it's not a college student, fixed gear plus Fens still sounds like they may have taken a beating.
