Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Is this spring/summer going to be worse for fixie/forum newbs?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I always look forward to the 'which messenger bag has the best stash pocket to hold my pbr and pie in' possenger threads. Gives me hope for humanity while awaiting the return of Schwinbikelove. Come back...

oblige some, insult others. if a newb knows anything about a bike you wont think they're a newb anyway.

It's all about the road bike for me this summer.

That was exactly my thought. Yep, I have been riding my road bike more and more. This is the first time in hmm, wow, eight years I guess, that I won't be spending the summer in a major U.S. city. Jeez, that is hard to believe it was that long. Anyway, I find once I leave the city I care and am faced with the fixed gear bandwagon spring/summer spree a lot less.

Dude, PBR is so last year. Schlitz is making a comeback.

Just the kiss of the hops! Schlitz got me through a rough summer a few years back. Was working at a restaurant and it wasn't a whole lotta fun...but there was a booze store directly next to it and they sold Schlitz six packs for a few dollars. Wonderful!

Of late I've been drinking Genesee 40s. Not for style points, but because they are a $1.66 and it tastes excellent, for the price. When I visit friends in NC a bar they frequent sells Genny Cream Ale as an import! $4.50 a bottle. In NY State Creamers are $2.99 for a six pack.

When I first read this, I thought you wanted to be assigned the internet tough guy, a title you're aboviously striving for. Thought you were looking for a 2nd on that motion. You got my vote, buddy.

There is definitely a good way and a bad way to be a noob. With some of them you can tell that even though they don't know anything yet, they are making a sincere effort. They ask good focused questions that don't require essay length answers; they seem to get some of the basic fundamentals of common sense, etc. Those ones are fine.

that is disgusting. genny is some of the worst piss beer I've had. I had a friend who would drink 12 packs of genny lite like they were water. ugh.

Lately I've been having more and more random strangers, bike people and not bike people, asking me about my bike.

Riding to work today a dude who had to be about 70 said "Riding one of those fixed gear bicycles to work huh? That must not be fun on the hills!"

I told him I love hills!

A surfer/homeless guy asked me last week what happens when I need to change gears for a hill...
