just got back from my first run in a few months. man did that suck. i wanted to die after 3 miles. last year 6 miles was my "short run" with 10-13 being my longer runs. man, what a difference a few months can make.

the sad part is that im faster on the bike right now then ive ever been before.

this makes me scared to get back in the pool. :o

Dude I hear ya. I often wonder how myfirness canvary from sport to sport. I never was a great runner but find when I do runwell I ride better..That being said it almost nevere works the other way around. I wish I kne why.

I also found my first ride a beast. I did gain a ton of weight and was out from a broken foot for 3 months

I am training for IM Wisconsin this fall, and have found that as long as I get my long run in on the weekend (currently 10-14 miles) I only need one or two other runs during the week to keep feeling good as long as I bike to work every day, but when I was only running and just started up with commuting to work, the run fitness didn't carry over to the bike very well for me.

That said, I am old (38), and the 35 pounds I have lost since last August could be what's making the runs feel so easy. Going long at 185lbs feels a lot better than going long at 220 pounds did.

:)

ill get under 200 this year, but with my build, i dont know how realistic my overall goal of 190 really is.

Similar story for me (I'm doing IM Wisconsin this year too, but have this IM Lanzarote thing to do first...). I was an off and on runner before, but since starting tris, I only run 3 times a week - long run on the weekend, 2 maintenance runs during the week and commute every day. Three runs a week plus cross training was also enough for me to run ultras last year.

I haven't found that running translates to biking fitness, but I did find that biking help teach me to keep my cadence up in my running so my running seemed to improve once I started biking. Then again, I too also lost 30+ lbs. since starting tris. I'm about 135 now so an extra 30+ lbs.on this frame is a huge difference.

Man, when I read about the weights of some of you guys on this forum I feel like a lard ***. 135 pounds? I'm 210 lbs at 6 feet tall. (I was 235 two years ago). I just started biking and have been running for a few months. I find that, for me, the running helps the biking, but not vice versa.
I'm signed up for a sprint tri in July that I did last year and hope to knock off ten minutes from my bike time due to the bike I just bought (did it on a mountain bike last year).
