I have a set of Carbon bars that do not have ends to reinforce the ends from bar ends. Are the bars strong enough to attach bar ends with out crushing the carbon. Just wondering what you guys do?

Considered breaking something off in the end to reinforce it? Dowel Pin or something? I ride LP bars with the reinforcements so I have never dealt directly with the issue.

Well i know with eastons handlebars they give you a list of manufacturers whos bar ends should not be used. Something with the slot on the bolt

Carbon bars are not made for bar ends; that's one of the "sacrifices" one makes when purchasing them. If you do as Trey said and "break something off in the end..." you're likely going to comprimise the bars and your going to add a weight penalty which means that you're probably going to be pretty close to the same weight of your aluminum bars therefore making the additional cost of purchasing the carbons a waste.

Basically, don't do it.

Easton's EC70 bars (previously called CT2) can be run with certain types of barends (slot design still matters though). The EC90s cannot... well at least they tell you they can't. Check their website. Many carbon bars aren't designed for barends. The internal reinforcement with the dowel is not really a great solution, IMHO. I suppose you could try and find a tight-fitting internal metal ring that would work better... or you could just buy a new bar that's approved for use with barends. ;) Regardless, whatever you do, don't overtorque the clamps.

Maybe you're not supposed to use bar ends without reinforcements on carbon bars, but I always have with no problems. I've even had a couple of good crashes that should have caused a break if it was going to happen (instead I broke my hand, but that's another story). My bars are Easton Monkey Lite XC and the bar ends are Control Tech. The bar ends have a slot that is centered (recommended) as apposed to an offset slot.
