Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - fixie q's ;)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey I got a fixed gear bike like last week (bikes direct kilo tt!!!!) but I am having trouble coasting, whenever I stop pedaling the cranks still rotate. Whats the deal?

Return it. Tell them it wont coast. I'm sure they'll take care of it.

no
I think I am going to take it to my LBS (local bike shop) too see if they can fix it, maybe it just needs some more grease?
try hitting the cranks with a heavy hammer until they give

How to coast:
1.Remove Brakes & toe clips+straps
2.Find the steepest longest hill you can.
3. Pedal as fast as you can down the hill.
4. Take feet off pedals.
5. You are now coasting.

Someone made this joke yesterday. (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=408321)
I am going to take my brake off whenever they fix it (I am all about simplicity and low profile, kind of a zen thing).
Anyways how do I re-wrap bars? Can someone show me a tutorial? Also I have the green kilo tt, do you think white would be good or should I get something out there, like yellow?

Why do you want bar tape that just slows you down, also bar ends are a terrible idea.

Why do you want bar tape that just slows you down...
So that explains why I rarely break 30mph on my commute. Danged bar tape!
...bar ends are a terrible idea.
Next time you crash and mellon-ball your spleen with the open bar end, you will realize the value of bar end plugs.
The spleen will only slow you down.

Very well then. ON YOUR LEFT! Bye-bye.........
in any other city 20mph+ might seem slow, down here you're flying by any other cyclist on the road, on the other hand, the same could be said for 12mph+ (how the average cyclist in NOLA even maintains forward motion I don't know, cockroaches in their hub do the work?)

Most have to drag their feet to stop. So they don't want to be moving too fast. Wish I were kidding.

Y'know, it kind of loses its humor if everyone keeps doing it.

I revoke my acceptance!

The converse is true of fixed gears. The more kids ride them, the funnier they get.
