Last night coming back from the group ride about 3 blocks from my college i was going about 20 mph and i saw a guy in the middle of the street. I had no time to react, and tried to go around, but it was a narrow street and he took a step and then ****ing clocked me in the jaw. Luckily i stayed on, but i knew his intention (to steal me wallet/bike/dignity) and kick the **** outta me. Anyway i was lucky. Don't visit milwaukee.

tl:dr - some guy tried to **** me up while i was moving.

There hasn't been a threads on guns in a while. It always made sense to me being on a expensive bike, usually exhausted and an easy target.

How do you carry the gun? How easy access do you have to it? How much does it weigh?

hanjin

I have a belly band type holster kinda looks like an ace bandage with a slot for my hog leg. Very light, the Glock 27 is a sub compact polymer gun so even loaded its light. It fits in the small of my back, I just wear a bigger t-shirt.

Washington state allows you to carry concealed pistol. Law abiding citizens have a right to protect their lives from armed criminals or multiple attackers who would inflict grievious bodily harm. One person standing in the road would not justify leathal force. You would have to convince a jury of why you did it.

Tennessee now allows you to carry an UNconcealed weapon.

I feel safe enough in Montreal with a box wrench and a U-lock in easy reach, but now that I think of it if I were to be riding all-over-everywhere-everyday in downtown B-More, I'd probably ride strapped. I saw something about a .22 that was made for runners and cyclists and such. Know anything about that one? Real easy to conceal, as I remember, but I feel it'd be kind of like bringing a knife to a gunfight in some parts of town...

True dat!! But no one is saying to shoot every knucklehead who runs out in front of you. If you can avoid the situation that's always the first choice. But what if he had been knocked off his bike and attacked? Then you have to gauge the situation, is your bike worth another man's life? Most likely not but if YOUR life is in danger, then the other guy gets a new breathing hole in his chest.

Doesn't get uncomfortable with sweat during the summer months? I've been thinking of picking up a 26 to supplement my 19 for rides. I never carry while riding when it's definitely when I'm most vulnerable. Especially on the more sketch parts of town.

I've lived in Milwaukee for a couple years and have not yet had anyone try to jump me, whether riding my bike, or walking around at bartime. It mainly depends on the neighborhood and time of day. It's not really fair to say "don't visit Milwaukee," in my opinion.

As for packing, it's illegal here in Wisconsin. From what I hear, though, a lot of Milwaukee delivery drivers illegally carry concealed weapons, and have been let off on several occasions for firing at an assailant. I've considered carrying my CZ (pictured in avatar) here in town, but it kind of limits where you can go and what you can do.

Why didn't you jump off and kick his ass? You don't sound like much of a baller to me.

And one thing to think about when carrying a pistol while riding is that you sure as **** don't want to land on it. Keeping it on your back and landing hard is a pretty good way to break a rib/vertebrae/whatever. I know a motorcyclist who is in a wheelchair because of his Luger, and it didn't even go off.

Would you legally be allowed just to pull it out on someone (and you know, not actually shoot them). Because I think a gun would be a pretty good deterrent without even firing a shot.

do those states require permit to carry concealed or otherwise? I've been considering applying for my concealed carry permit in PA, then at least I have it if i choose to carry.

In states that allow ccw, it is normally a larger offense to not kill someone and draw on them than to pull a gun and kill someone in self defense. As the former implies that you were not in a life threatening situation, which is the only time at which using a gun in self defense is considered legal.

THIS elevnty.

Legally guns aren't allowed for use as deterrents. They're only allowed to protect yourself or a loved one from the threat of immediate harm/death, usually some state laws have different mileage and it's best to know yours locally before you tote anything around with you.

Personally I can't be botherred to carry right now but if I figure out a comfortable situation to load my HK around that I think would really be useful and quick enough on the draw I'd do it.

Right now I just have:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/412CAvIEVjL._SS500_.jpg

Honestly I'd actually take my chances with that and a U-lock over a pistol weilder at close range. Unless the guy goes to the range regularly and practices moving targets the odds are heavily weighted in my favor.

Katana would be better, but until they make a mess bag with a quick draw sheath I'm stickin with the auto-knife.

My daddy always told me there is no such thing as a fair fight. Either you have the advantage or the other guy does. So I'm just being prepared, I got a u-lock too. But if the other party has something more substantial, so do I. I learned the hard way, by getting a .44 mag shoved in my face for my car. Catch me slipping once, shame on me. Try that carjackin/bikejackin sh*t again and you get a hydrashock in the *****.

Come on man!! The eastern warsaw pact is just as bad. I use to live in Poland born and rasied. Been all over that region, hell your bordered by Romania for christ sake!! Don't get me wrong its beautiful but you'd get killed for you bike there quicker than in Houston. And in most place in europe you can't even think about a CHL license.

I'm pretty sure Houston has as rough of neighborhoods as any city in this country.

First of all, you don't pull a gun out if you don't intend to use it, meaning shoot the person. The perp can take the gun from you. Or pull their own gun out and shoot you.

Second of all, where in Milwaukee and what time? I was out last night, intoxicated on my bike and everything was cool, even in sketchy Riverwest.

On a more sober note one of my best friends was murdered in a robbery in this area a few years ago.

Fact is, you never know wtf is gonna happen where. Better to cover your own ***** than end up in an f'ed up situation and no way to deal.

I'd expect for those that live in such a rough neighborhood they'd have already learned this lesson, but I'm going to go with internet tough guy persona attitude ftl.

I can use my weapon when I have to. If your in Houston swing by Shiloh Shooting range, I'm there most of the time with my brother. I ride my bike there all the time.

Damn, where'd you learn to shoot like that?

Only guy I know that can do that with a pistol is a Marine corps marksmanship instructor.

I'll be in Houston the weekend of May 9th, if you're really down I won't have any firearms but you can rent at that range?

I'll be visiting family down there and I want to teach my dad how to use a scope. PM me if you're interested I might know of some long range people we can go with to see if we can do 1000 yards or something.

75ft with a pistol is pretty hardcore though man.

I've been shooting a long time with a pistol, just recently started shooting open class IDPA, and GSSF. Actually my younger brother is better than me, he beats me most times we enter competitions together. You can rent most anything at our range from Glock to HK to 1911, but its pistol only. There are a few long ranges nearby.

That place is a hole. I'm about ten minutes by bike from my range and I'm great friends with the owners. So it's the only place I shoot anymore. I used to go to Carter's Country but those guys have been dicks to people in the past too. I'm happy with my small range.
