Croak,
What does it mean if your abs appear larger on the right than the left?
Is my spine twisted if I have this condition, or does it just mean I did not swim properly in my youth?

ps: How do you train to alleviate associated complications?
Mostly it is genetic.
Like any other muscle, abs grow as they are trained. If they are actually more prominent it may be that they are stronger on that side, indicating a muscle imbalance in the core. It may also be an indication of a curved spine.
If they just don't align properly it is either genetic or posture. If you are interested, go and see a chiropractor, this is their specialty.

Look at any professional body builder's abs. They are all over the place half the time. I actually have a 7 pack. My lower abs on my right side are split but not so on my left. Its most likely just bum genetics!
Thanks for the input.
I guess when I can do the Bruce Lee "flag" exercise, then I will not have the unevenness.

A guy I know, Matt, who owns his own gym and used to compete nationally as a body builder had something to say about abs. In order to build a muscle for appearance, you need to isolate it in an exercise. Abs are, according to Matt, the hardest muscles to isolate. Also to make matters worse, each section of Abs takes a different exercise to isolate.
In your workouts, you might just be letting one side of your body do most of the work and that would result in a lopsided appearance. To correct it, you would have to learn how to evenly stress the muscles of both sides.

It's purely genetic. Some people are born with symetrical abs and some with a-symetrical abs. Your abs are not 8 seperate muscles, "they" are one large muscle that excends from up under your sternum to down near your groing. What gives you the 8-pac or 6-pac is the.... shoot can't remember, tendons? ahh it escapes me but I think you get the idea.
