So I have been riding my fixie (bd kilo tt w/ deep v's and a pretty sweet tube protector) for about 3 weeks now and I have the whole fixed gear thing down pretty well. I can ride brakeless and slow down super fast, I can trackstand (not no hands yet), and all the rest. Anyways I was biking to my friend Tony's house lastnight and I was thinking "Man, I could get a job messin', I am good enough for that ****"

Anyways, my problem is that I live in apple valley minnesota, but I decided that if it paied well (and i could deliver lots of stuff prob cause I am quick you know) I could drive out there and park in a garage and just commute back n forth you know? Anyways, basically I was wondering if some of the mess'gers on this forum could give me stop tips on how to get a job working the streets. I don't have much of a resume other than being the best fixie rider in the south suburbs, but I def can back up that claim. what do you think?

I've heard that messangers don't get paid very well at all, usually below minimum wage as it's a commission type thing. Factor in the costs of bicycle upkeep and long hard working hours to make anything and it's probably not worth it financially.

My advice (based upon just what I've read about messangers): Do it for the love of it, not for the money.

If I make enough money to commute back and forth (my subaru forester gets like 30mpg) I am pretty ok cause I still live at my parents. I am all about riding for fun, you know what I mean 4 sho

I think when the weather warms up you should buy a bike and try to learn how to ride.
It helps if someone holds the back of the seat and runs along side you at first.

Do it. most messengers actually only live in the city during the week in a crash pad and live out of town on w/e and holidays in the country.

So let me get this straight... You are the best rider in your suburbs where you have absolutely nothing to worry about as far as hazards during your ride. You also have a Killo TT (with top tube pad) and have been riding for 3 weeks? You could get bored of fixed after a few months, flat out you have no experience whatsoever. You are completely unready for what you would need to do as a messenger. Not only that but Im willing to bet that you would most likely cry, if a messenger talked to you about the dangers involved, then run back home where you are "king of the suburbs, WITH PROOF!".

Move to New York and take a leisurely ride and see if you dont want to go back home.

It really isn't. And the fact that it's the second trolling thread that Pfutz has created in one day doesn't help.

If Tina Tommasini can have it done by request, I don't see why you couldn't request locks

I don't post them because I am funny, I post them because this is funny:

Actually, I was thinking that I wanted to do the same thing this summer too. Does anybody know of any gigs in the San Gabriel Valley I could take?

since this thread is a bomb, can someone fill me in on what happened with the tommasini thread. Maybe a link would help. I came back after a couple days and everyone was laughing about tommasini.

maybe its because i'm horrendously hungover today, but for some reason i thought this thread was really funny.

i think its 'cause i got the cloudy brains today. my comprehension skills are so god damned shot... these rudimentary jabs are really doin' it for me.

i'm gonna spend the rest of my work day laughing at icanhascheezburger and trying to figure out why i'm such a terrible, terrible person.

anyway, you show 'em Pfutz.

You should get a more descript outfit. That hood and shades bit is sneaky.

Tommasini posted a warning about knock off frames on ebay. The ebay seller was contacted by a mod to have a chance to refute the claims and boy did he.
It went on between the two for a while, and we all dog piled with the ebay guy on Tina (tommasiniUSA) since his story seemed legit. Meanwhile Tina had mods close/delete threads/posts and Deathhare almost shed a tear due to some alleged mod manipulation of his account. It was spectacular.

Take their bikes, they won't leave you alone.

Well, if you're really tied to a hoody, get the ones that zip up all the way and create a luchador mask.

Everyone likes getting stuff from EL REY!!!

best messenger story I've ever heard... helps if you know the streets of Boston;

a former coworker was riding up St. James Ave (the street that's on the "backside" of Copley Sq) and saw a kid hauling ass the wrong way down the street followed close behind by two messengers... one of the messengers rode up along side the kid and leapt off of his fixed gear in mid-stroke, tackling the kid (apparently the kid had grabbed the bike from one of the messengers that hung around in Copley; I was always amazed how many messengers seemed to spend most of their time sitting around)...

I apologize to the many fans of graphic violence that would like some sort of over-the-top beating to round this story out... I don't have one.

There are pizza places here in PDX that deliver by bicycle only, probably much more lucrative position than a messenger.

What about pedicab?

The great thing about that ^^^^ bike is that the sign would provide a nice little back rest whenever you get tired.
