A friend just bought a very nice Marin San Marino--'03 Model. It seems like a terrific frame and component set (Campy mix of Centaur and Veloce)...smooth ride and nice geometry.

Only question I had relates to the chain line. The bike has a triple of front and even in the middle chain ring it looks like the chain comes off at a pretty sharp angle in towards the back. It seems that the bike was really designed for a double and using a triple gives that funky angle.

Any ideas for a potential fix? Spacers? Could the set up at the LBS have been done improperly?

Thanks

Ideally the middle chain ring should fall right in the center of the cogset. That should be pretty easy to check. But, if the bike shifts without problems and doesn't make any strange noises I wouldn't mess with it. There is a great section on this issue in the Barnett's manual above.

indeed if there are no shifting problems then it may just be an optical illusion. however the only other possiblity I could think of which would create a problem is a bottom bracket which is too wide, which would push the cranks further away from the frame.....
