Need a ride report after you've got a couple weeks on it.

How's it handle, LowCel? Always been curious about the long-wheelbase bikes like the Hayabusa.

Congrats LowCel! How's the ride?

LowCel

Thanks everyone, appreciate the compliments.

Crankshaft and msincredible, it actually handles a lot better than I expected. Obviously I can't throw it around like I could my 600 but it still handles pretty well. I've only ridden it about an hour so far so I haven't had time to get used to it or to even come close to it's limits. To be honest, I don't plan on ever getting it close to it's limits. This thing is way too powerful for that and I have way too much to live for.

I do know that I shifted to second at around 95 mph yesterday. I could have went over 100 before I shifted but the bike is still new, I need to take it a little easy on it during the break in period. ;)

95 in first gear? I know without a doubt that that is one fast bike, but I'm not sure I'll buy 95 in first gear!

Take a look HERE. (http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm) Are you guys in the motorcycle circles familiar with this theory? Some people say the same is true for cars, so I was curious.

You don't have to buy it, I'm okay with that. I'm not willing to take a picture while I'm doing close to 100 mph to prove it. As for one fast bike, that is an understatement. It and the hayabusa are the fastest (factory) bikes there are. Which is fastest is debatable. From the factory it does 9 second quarter miles and 0-60 in 2.5 seconds.

I've read it and plan to break my bike in that way when it get here. I have a diesel pickup and that's worked very well for me there. The article is right about aircraft engines (they run at full power from the get go, though they use mineral oil during break in before switching to regular oil).

I plan to have the oil and filter here at the house and the shop where I'm getting the bike is about 75 miles away, so the trip home will be the initial break in. I'll go to synthetic at 1000 miles.

There is an 1/8th mile drag strip about an hour or so away from my house. I may take it there one day.

skiahh - What ever you decide to get make sure to check on insurance first, with a VIN number. I have no idea how old you are or what your driving record is like but still make sure you check. I was just talking to a kid (18 - 20ish) at the local supermarket. He came outside and was talking to me about my bike. He told me that he has a 2008 hyabusa. I told him that I was debating between the two but ended up going with the Ninja because of insurance costs. The busa was going to cost me about $300 more a year.

He told me that he knew exactly what I meant. I told him about how I pay $465 for insurance for this one, he then said that he spends one of his paychecks a month on insurance, he pays $480 a month! I kind of felt bad when I had to clarify and explained to him that I am paying $465 for the year. :D

Most experienced mechanics I know don't agree with this. Don't run it super hard, don't baby it either. Vary the rpms during the break-in period.

My bike hits the rev limiter at 85 mph in 2nd gear with the current gearing.

Yeah, my insurance on the Ducati is definitely much more than on my old Suzuki GS500.

Not anywhere near that amount though!

Oh yeah, that's a given. USAA has a deal with Progressive, so that's who I'll be going with, most likely.

At 44 with a clean driving record and high credit score, I'll be paying about the same as you.

At 25, when I bought my Katana, USAA originally said they'd cover it so I bought it. When I was in the shop getting ready to go home, I called them to activate and suddenly Katanas were on the blacklist (Ninjas, Katanas, Hurricaines etc). I wound up talking to an underwriter who decided that'd cover it based on a picture... because the riding position wasn't quite as far forward as the more racing oriented sport bikes. Go figure. They covered it for the 10 years I had it with no more issues. That was back when USAA carried motorcycle policies themselves.

Let's see - $131. Yep, that works out to $10.91 per month. About 1/2 what the Goldwing costs. It pays to keep your driving record and credit score clean. :)

You are right, I'm wrong. You're pretty, I'm ugly. You're smart, I'm stupid.........

I just went out for a ride and wanted to double check my numbers so I could tell you about it. It kind of back fired. It cut out at 88 - 89 mph in first gear. I was wrong, sorry about that. :(

Oh to be young and need car/motorcycle insurance again  !

If I understand correctly, the state of Washington does not require motorcycles to have insurance...one of my co-workers had a motorcycle precisely because he did not have to insure it.

Crazy talk.

"Washington does not require insurance for motorcycles, but riders do have minimum insurance requirements for financial responsbility. You might be required to deposit cash or post a bond with the DOL for as much as $25,000 if you're found to be at fault in an accident."

I never understood it either, but my co-worker did not have insurance on his motorcycle. If I understood him correctly, most motorcycle riders were not at fault in accidents, so they didn't worry about having to post a bond.

Jackie was crazy. I've known a couple of riders who managed to total their brand new machines, and who were out of luck replacing the bike, because they didn't have insurance on it.

No need... I'm not a big fan of chrome. Besides, I think this bike looks better with LESS chrome. Maybe I'll even powder coat the pipes black! It's a tough looking bike that looks best black. I almost ordered a blue one, but decided on second (and third) thought that it had to be black.

Pics as soon as it gets here; it's due to ship early next week.

If my bike ever gets scratched up, I'll have everything painted flat black, and the wheels powder coated red. But keep the whitewalls.

Uh oh, rat bike.

I saw a Harley the other day, which the owner had decked out with black almost everything, instead of chrome. Some of it was kind of an orange peel texture. It was a nice look.

Here are some updated pictures of my 14. It is still pretty new, only has 430 miles on it so far. I have put on a Puig dark double bubble windscreen, fender eliminator, rear spools, Yoshimura full race exhaust w/ carbon can, speedohealer, pciii, and removed the secondary flies. The new pipercross air filter should be here on Monday.
