I think we're deficient. There's Matt Attenmacher's shop in Swartz Creek, MI, Doug Fattic in Niles, MI, Franklin down near Columbus, and I don't really know of another one. A Chicago framebuilder, Ron Boi, has all his painting done by Chris Kvale in Minnesota. Maybe McLain's Bikes in Traverse City would know of a good painter in TC - I think there's a lot of fixie activity up there.

I'd also contact Oscar (the owner) at Great Lakes Cycles in Ann Arbor. He's trying to build a very high quality full-service shop, and might have a good painting resource identified. Ditto for John at Continental Bikes in Berkely (I think) on John R Road.

I would think a motorcycle custom painter would have all the skills and tools, no?

Are you set on paint? If you would consider the powdercoat there is Superior Powdercoating in Fenton that is very reasonably priced, quick turn around, and nice work. I have had a steel frame/fork stripped and powdercoated a solid single color for $75.
