I've got Dura Ace 7400 series derailleurs. What are my options for index shifting? From what I gather I can use 8speed DA STI levers, downtube shifters (which I have), and barcons. Can I use Shimano 600/Ultegra 8speed STI? Can I use Campy 8speed ergo levers? I'm scouring ebay at the moment looking for STI levers, and I want to know exactly what will work with these derailleurs. If it helps I am running a 7speed cluster. Thank you.

Dura-ace 8 speed has a unique cable pull ratio...

7 speeds are enough. You may have problems mixing DA with other Shimano. As cyclotoine and Sheldon Brown have pointed out. 8 speed DA STI levers cost more than you paid for everything you have. If you want to move to brifters you may be better off going modern and using a less expensive group, like Sora.

Well it looks like I'll be using the downtube shifters that came with my box of parts when I get the bike built, but I'm gonna have to wait around for a deal on those 8speed STI levers.

You can use 8s DA shifters or any model Shimano 9s shifters.

Says so on Sheldon's chart and this (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=409049)BF thread has two with real world experience
