Ok, LowCel posted some shots of his shiny new motorcycle, so I figured I'd do the same. While he went to a bigger bike, I gave up 4 cylinders and a full liter of displacement. But I think this suits me a bit better than my Goldwing did.

Went with the Volusia 800? Probably my favorite "floorboard" bike ever. How you finding the twin?

They're called the "Boulevard" now. I find the little toy v-twin to be somewhat lacking in power, and pretty buzzy on the freeway. But the sound is growing on me, and the bike itself feels more like a motorcycle, and less like a two-wheeled Escalade.

Best way I've heard the Boulevard/Volusia described is as a Harley with handling, brakes and horsepower:D.

I'm really not into cruisers. In fact I usually avoid footboards like a plague. But, I loved that Volusia my grandfather had, and as far as I know the Boulevard is not much different.

A single disc up front, with a drum in the back. If it stops better than a Harley, I'm worried. Basically, I was spoiled by the Goldwing. I'll get over it.

Every bike I've had so far has had either a drum in the back or two drums, and most of them have been pretty willing to stand on their nose:D

I just want to stop quickly and safely.

Nosestands are just bonus:D

On a somewhat serious note, the drum on the Volusia was quite willing to brake hard and would lock the tire if you really wanted it to. The drop in weight from the Wing makes a big difference in braking.

Crank - My first bike was a rather mint Honda 360 twin with a 6 speed which was good for little trips and scooting around town... a disc drum combo worked fine to stop the bike as it would top out at 140 kmh and you needed a rather windless day to do that. :)

My next bike was a track ready and rather vintage '78 Honda 750 Supersport with an 812 bb kit, 40 mm carbs, upgraded intake, a performance header, and Avon Super Venoms to keep things super sticky. I added drilled rotors to the dual front and single rear brakes as the bike needed a good deal of stopping power.

Wish I had pics online as that was a nice freaking bike... it would idle along all day at 140 kph (and still get great mileage) and a friend with a speedo that went to 280 clocked me at 245 kmh.

I never had the balls to redline the bike either.

300lbs less, but the braking is still no match.

Again, 2 weeks or so and counting!

Nice ride, Brian.

Your bike is beautiful Brian. I have no trouble appreciating cruisers, I've owned three of them. A shadow 650, a shadow 1100, and a Road Star Warrior 1700. I don't think any of them were as pretty as yours though.

If you ever make it to WV I'll be happy to take you on some nice scenic rides.

Thanks. It's the chrome spokes and whitewalls that set it apart from other bikes, in my opinion. I suspect that if decide to do any long road trips, I'll get a VTX1800 first.

My father in law has a Bouvard too. You should hear him scraping those floor boards when he tries (and does quite well) to keep up with me on the Duc in the twisties. It's a nice handling bike.

Your bike Screams " Viva Viagra"

Perhaps to you, in your mid-life crisis :D ?

I turn 40 next week so at this point in my life I finally have nothing stuck up my ass. I feel blessed to have the life that I have.

I meant what I said and I don`t get off hurting anyones feelings. At this point in my life I`m not going to coddle and falsely state that everything is going to be OK. Life is tough.

Life is tough, Glenn :) .

Brian, do you go the full black leathers when you're riding the new bike?

I really like the white sidewalls--it must be the C & V person in me :D .

Nope. Black Docs, blue jeans, and black textile touring jacket. Oh, Dockers when I ride to work. The whitewalls and spokes make the bike.

Nice bike Brian !
Most people who ride for a long time end up on Cruisers after the
Sportbike phase. Its a great way to slow down and enjoy the ride.
I had two Harleys and loved them so obviously I am predjudiced toward
them but if I had to do it again a Suz or Kawi Metric Cruiser would be it !

Be careful !!

A friend at work has a V-Star 650 that is notoriously underpowered. It's a beautiful bike and sounds good. He call his bike "Sound and Fury" as in "sound and fury signifying nothing."

Well duh! My Doc Marten's may not be motorcycle boots, but they're sturdy and provide ankle support. Gloves and a helmet go without saying.

Ran into quite a few bikes like that in my riding days... we called them Harley Davidsons.

I'm still searching for a viable alternative to jeans. Bohn-Armor makes some nice stuff, but at $159/pair, it's not cheap to outfit myself for a work week. Sliders might be best for work.

How about textile pants that you can wear over your work clothes?

New Enough (http://www.newenough.com/protective_apparel/) has some good prices.

No, you're being a troll, but I'll note the irony of you telling someone else to MYOB. What business is it of yours that his post got deleted? Other than trying to stir things up.

It was a general question and I gave a general answer based on the fact I did not see the removed post.

Mebbe it was self deleted... you can do that when you post something before thinking it over properly.

Also a simple explanation. Some of us do that. I know I often think over things, and sometimes change my mind about the appropriateness of what I may have posted originally :) .
